Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a 2003 Escalade 2003 and it does not have the Navigation / Media System that I see in the new 2004's (as a standard). I would like to upgrade my rig with this system (or at least have an overhead DVD player in the back).

I called the Caddy dealership and those fools are telling me it like $2 K for this option??? I went to Circuit City and it was still floating around $1 K for a descent system. If I am going to invest in this, I want to get a top-notch system.

Two questions:

1) Can I buy a Navigation / Media system (DVD, XM, Navigation, etc.) like what comes in the 2004's...and if so where? How much?

2) What other 3rd party (Audiovox, Panasonic, Sony, Liquid, etc.) types and models do you suggest based on your experiences? I want to keep my purchase to around $800 - $1,200 if possible - any feedback?

Thanks guys - have a great weekend!

I heard that you cannot replace the 2003 stock audio unit with a 2004 nav/xm unit. Even if it were possible the costs would probably outweigh buying a nice aftermarket unit.

What I was thinking you should do for the navigation is take out the whole stock system and put in a nice screen. I went to my local shop thinking about doing the same thing. I have Icon tvs which are one on the best to me. Anyways the store said it was 500 for an 8" or 9" tv. The screen was orginally suppose to be for a flipdown and they can install it right up in the front. As for what navigation system you want that is up to you. I have an alpine in my truck which is great. But instead of paying for the factory navigation get a nice 8 or 9" tv up front programed to the navigation.

:yeah:

the cost of custom mounting a stock nav unit would be too high and it wouldn't be as good as an aftermarket one. just take the money and go with something custom. i've heard alpine is good and i've been looking at the pioneer one.

I am thinking about going with the Pioneer Avic-N1. This unit comes with Nav. Dvd player, Engine diagnosis, and available rear view camera. The only flaw is the small 7 inch screen. It typically cost anywhere from $1,600-$2,200 depending on where you get it.
