Hi everyone!

I just bought an 04 Escalade. The only thing wrong with the truck is that the headlights were hazy at the top, but I have polished out many headlights with great success. The problem is that the haziness is on the inside. Has anyone ever been successful at disassembling one of these to access the inside of the acrylic cover? It looks to be just a bunch of flash metal lock washers holding it together, but I did not want to risk breaking them. I also thought that while I was in there some parts of the reflector (the ones that aren't used to reflect) would look good painted black. Anyone ever do this?

Thanks!

The hazy is usually moisture condensation. Take the bulb out of the lights and use a hair dryer to blow warm, dry air into the lights for about 30 minutes each. Check the seals between the lens and the reflector and repair any cracks you see. Reinstall the light and bulb making sure all the seals are good and that should solve your problem.

^^^^^ The above info is incorrect IMO.

There are several posts on the haziness on the inside of the Escalade's headlights. It's actually a smokey film, not condensation. Fortunately it's a very easy fix.

Remove the headlight assembly from the truck, pour some warm water into the headlight, and swirl it around thoroughly. It wouldn't hurt to add a mild detergent to the water, but be sure to rinse thoroughly. Allow the assembly to air dry very well, or you could help it along with a hair dryer or heat gun (300 degrees or so) and reinstall. Make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling. The lights will look brand new.

A search of the Escalade forum with the terms "headlight + film + smoke" yields:

Thanks! I never would have put those search terms together as I did not know it was smoke residue. I will try it tomorrow.
