Hey guys,

I am on the lookout for a 95 or 96 FWB. I have already looked at one (95) and am about to look at a 96. But I have noticed on both of these cars, that the small chrome on the rear is bubbling up. Now I realize that these peices are covered with a chrome "veneer" so to speak, but I jsut wanted to make sure that this isn't a sign of something more serious that i don't see. I haven't seen this on all or even a lot of them, but I have seen it on two now and I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to look out for somethign else like rust or something.

I don't think I have seen one that hasn't bubbled. If I owned one, I would peel the plastic chrome off the trim, and just use chrome trim tape to cover it.

Good to know. Thanks for the information.

Where can such chrome tape be purchased? Mines in need of help.

Any parts place should have it in the appearance aisle. Look near the pinstriping tape.

A simple fix that looks much better than the bubbling. Kind of disconcerting when you first notice it though, I thought the chrome molding was metal too, before I bought mine. Seems like even the mint examples with 10,000 miles have the bubbling. Oh well.

yeah that is what i have notice too. One had 48k and one had 102k. The bubbling wasn't any worse on one than it was on the other.

The other fix is to replace these pieces. They are still available from GM and are not very expensive. The parts come with all necessary mounting hardware.

LF = 12529569 $51.08
RF = 12529568 $51.08
LR = 12529571 $46.24
RR = 12529570 $46.24

Even my '96 has that issue. I have two sets of replacements in the basement waiting for when I paint the car and get the vinyl top removed.

I think each set cost me around $120.

Ah ha! Now I understand the need to sell the Benz. Then by all means get as much money for it as you can so you can pay cash for your next car. If you take quality pictures, I can make a craigslist or ebay ad for you.

I'm like 96Fleetwood, holding on to a set of replacement chrome trim until the day I repaint the body.

I've also researched a few locations that do the professional chrome paint. It looks very impressive, but isn't cheap.

My 96 Fleetwood bubbled on the back and the front. I have not seen one that has not bubbled yet. They make a trim piece that comes in a roll that is fairly close. Not exact, but looks better than bubbling. If you were not a hard core Fleetwood fanatic you would not notice it was different.
