One thing to consider is whether that tire has a sidewall that extends beyond the width of the wheel (like GY ResponseEdges). Saves a lot of wheel damage.

I was seriously considering the Altimax until i read some comments on how plyable the sidewall was. I would suggest you check out a local store and ask to "feel" the tire to find out. I have the 17" OEM wheels so I was worried that the side roll would be an issue.
I ended up getting TOYO Proxies same size at all 4 corners. It's a very sturdy good looking tire. I fing it to be noisy at times, but I had an accident last year and there may be some lingering issues stemming from that event.
I'm due for first rotation which is exciting:bouncy:

I have these on my '02 530i BMW and love them. Great tire. I need to replace the tires on the SRX soon and will put these on.

I put 4 Toyo Proxes ST 255-50-20R's on my (awd) 07 a week after I bought my SRX new. I have put 39,200 miles on them since and just went out and measured the tread depth on all 4 and its a very even 9/32". I really like these tires, super looks, great traction dry/wet/snow, super tread wear and much quiter than the orginal 17" Goodyear RS's.

I put a set of Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires, staggered fit, on my 06 RWD and have been very pleased.

I got 63K out of the original Michelin Pilots. That's what I just put on.

Caper10,
I just dropped 4 KUMO's from Tirerack on my '04 SRX. I decided to go with the 255's all the way around. Nicer stace than the skinny up front look. Besides it helps with rotation and if you do catch a flat you can use a full spare 255. I picked up a spare 18 caddy rim from Ebay. Doesn't match but its 18' and I never worry about flats on the highway with that donut. I love these tires and they were only $121 ea $53 shipping for 2 day ground. 255/55R18. Smooth and quiet. Best of all they protect the rims from curb rash.

Hankook Ventus AS

Great tire, better performing than Michelins and Gyears that are twice as much.

You get what you pay for.......lemme know when you get 62K miles oughta the Hankooks.

While I only have 18K miles on my 09 SRX I too thought about going with FOUR 255/55-18's to allow rotation. Seems the 255's on all four corners is a natural. You'd just need to remember the TPMS will be out of wack.

Glad to know we have this option. I wonder why GM staggered the tire sizes on some SRX's?? Maybe fuel economy (less front end plowing through the air)??

The choices are a bit weak in 17"

You do get what you pay for most of the time but not always.

Do you need an all season tire or will you be using winter tires?

I replace Michelin on my Acura cars after 20,000 miles or less and both Japanese replacements had a better and more quiet ride and were 1/3 the price.
My son did the same thing on a Volvo and had the same result. I would not buy a Michelin unless they were cheaper. Right now I'm looking at the Hankook RX07 18 inch for $145 but I am tempted by Nitto for about $130 but can't seem to match one model with proper stagger. Anybody have Nitto?

I still haven't decided on tires...still researching. I have winter tires on now and don't need a tire good in snow.Looking for something good in the wet and quiet. Some reviews I read say the Toyos are noisy..are they??? I am going to run the 255 60 17s all around. Local tire dealers don't have much of a selection and want too much for what they can get. But gonna have to get something soon...

The General Altimax HPs are very good in the rain and very quiet on my BMW. For the price, I don't think you can beat them!

They look to be a great alternative when the time comes to buy new tires but it appears they don't come in the Sport Option size (255/55-18). Bummer one less choice.

I have these on our 04 in the 18" version and are super happy with them, I look for different things in tires and these fit the bill perfect.

Summer ONLY

Good treadlife but not hockey pucks, if you want max life you give up grip. A tire with 600 treadwear is great but sucks if you like to drive.

Very good in the rain.

These are OEM on some very nice SUV's, maybe not in the same treadwear but you get the point.

I searched forever and came up with these.

Tirerack does not show the size online but if you call they should be able to get it.
