Just how similar are the HF2.8L turbo & HF 3.6L? Could you in theory take the HF 3.6L block and mount the HF 2.8L head, turbo gear and electronics on it for example?

I don't think anyone would know, considering that the 2.8L isn't used in any production car yet. At least not any Cadillacs.

Not true. Saab, Opel and Cadillac have been using the 2.8L Turbo for 2 or 3 years now.

You might run into some issues since its only been mounted on a fwd configuration so far. The n/a 2.8L has been in the CTS tho...

The following cars use, or will use, the 2.8 turbo (LP9)
2007 Cadillac BLS ..... Epsilon platform (FF layout)
2010 Cadillac SRX ..... Sigma platform (FR Layout)
2006 Opel Vectra ...... Epsilon platform (FR layout)
2006 Opel Signum ..... Epsilon platform
2009 Opel Insignia ..... Epsilon platform
2006 Saab 9-3 ..... Epsilon platform (FF layout)

the other HF engines are

LP1 2.8L, naturally-aspirated engine used in the '05 CTS. Output is 210 HP@6500rpm/194 lb·ft@3300 rpm

LP9 2.8L, turbo-charged engine used in vechiles listed above. Power Output are 252hp@5500 rpm/258 lb·ft@1800rpm, 227 hp or 276 hp (will lookup which vehicles have which later)

LF1 3.0L, naturally-aspirated engine is debuting in '10 models on Epsilon, Sigma & Theta. power output is expected to be 255 hp@???? rpm/214 ft·lbf@????rpm

LY7 3.6L, naturally-aspirated engine used in lots of vehicles. Platforms include, W-body, Sigma, Epsilon, Zeta & Lambda. OUtputs vary depending on platform (w-body 240 hp@6000 rpm/225lb·ft@ 2000 rpm , Zeta 262hp/251lb·ft, Lambda 275 hp/251 lb·ft, Sigma 255 hp@6200rpm/252 lb·ft@3100 rpm, Epsilon 252hp@6300rpm/251 lb-ft@3200 rpm, Epsilon II is rumored to have 280hp/261lb·ft)

LLT 3.6L, naturally-aspirated engine used in Sigma, upcoming Lambda, Epsilon II & Zeta platforms. This is the Direct inject version. Power output is platform dependant (Zeta & Sigma 302 hp@6300 rpm/272 lb·ft@5200 rpm, Lambda 286Hp@6300rpm/255 lb·f@ 3400rpm, Epsilon II 280hp@???? Rpm/261lb·f@???? rpm)

LCS 3.6L, naturally-aspirated engine used in the Saturn Veu Hybrid/Theta platform. It is direct inject and is a 2-mode hybrid. Power Output 262 hp@6100 rpm/250 lb·ft@4800 rpm

As a note both Holden (227 hp@6600 rpm/219 lb·ft@3200 rpm) & Alfa Romeo (260 hp@6200 rpm/237 ft·lbf)build a 3.2L version of the engine too

So once the 2010 modeles get here the question will be more easily answered for the CTS anyways. The chart above is very interesting for the Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6, Saturn Aura, Fiat Croma, and the up coming 2010 Buick LaCrosse and Regal

Now to wait for the '10 SRX to reach boneyards to begin playing :)

Does any one have a picture of the engine bay for the current style CTS & Malibu. Or better yet the exploded view that the dealers use to see what part goes where. I'm looking to get measurement for this :)

I would hope Holden have a version of the engine, considering they helped design it. :) They also build most of the engines for the non-North American market.

Youre missing one application, too. The Saab Turbo X used the 2.8L Turbo, but it bumped the hp to 280 and the tq to 300+

only reason i didnt list the Saab Turbo X is i couldnt find the RPO code for that variant of the engine or the year:(

I have a feeling the turbo 2.8L will have considerable hp/tq differences depending on the yaear and model they are in

Thats fine, if all all the Saab Turbo X happens to be is an LP9 with more most or a bigger turbo its worth knowing for junk yard diving.

Just curious where had you heard it has more boost and did they/it tell you how it got more boost so i can add it to the list and be accurate :D
