View Full Version : Recaro seats "loose"?

Sometime when I accelerate I can feel the driver recaro seat tilt up/back slightly. Any one else notice this? I tried moving the seat when I'm not sitting in it and there is a little bit of play in the bottom cushion and seat back, but I can't see where it might be loose.

The passenger seat seems the same (but I of course haven't been riding in it to see if it shifts too).

BTW, I love this car! The idle sound is fantastic. I can't wait until break-in is over...200 miles to go...

might be some loose seat tracks.. there was a little problem with the early ones on that.. that has been corrected.

Mine does the same thing. I just picked it up 2 weeks ago so it's not an early production one. If something was corrected as Scott says, then they must have been really loose before.

I also have yet to be able to make the back feel comfortable. The lumbar support gives me a backache. I've adjusted it every which way, but it seems that no matter how I adjust it there is not enough support for my upper back. I guess I'll keep trying to adjust it.

Try using the lower lumbar to push the bottom of the seat forward. That evens out the permanent middle lumbar. Also, the side adjustments affect the lumbar as well. I have the same problem, I'm still adjusting the seat after 3 months. It definitely needs (more) padding, the seats are ridiculously hard for everyday driving.

I've also noticed the seat feeling loose, but only in certain positions.

Lastly, the memory buttons are irritatingly inprecise and don't remember the lumbar settings. The only thing that saves the day is the microfiber that keeps you in place.

I've been looking under the seats to try and see what's loose, and the freeplay doesn't seem to be at the tracks...it seems like the seats a sprung in some way.

I've got mine mostly comfortable...and I just need to learn to sit up staight and not slouch.

The seats are worth it for the ventilation alone...I love that feature.

Sounds like not everyone is totally happy with them, that's a bummer.

Yeah, nothing like spending $3,400 on seats that make your back hurt. I guess I should have listened to my wife and gone with the standard seats.

The standard seats are terrible! The standard seats don't hold me in during moderate to hard cornering. I wish I had the Recaro seats.

For the price these seats should also have massage built in.

The seats do require some fine tuning and they are firm and supportive, but not hard. Once you find the right combination, they are the best. I've had a Recaro office chair for about 20 years and have come to appreciate great back support. Slouching is not rewarded.

Hey, did you just call me a slouch?!!!!!! :want::p

Actually, I hope I can find the right position. I do really like the lateral support. As soon as Watkins Glen opens up I'll be over there pushing this beast to the limit. The lateral support will be much appreciated then!!

I'm sure someone will jump on that. They might even unbolt them for you.

So for a guy with a real bad back that's never going to get better, I have leg pain every day, what seats do you recommend? I'll probably never track the car. My V2 will be a dedicated pizza runner car (I work at home).

Hydrocodone and a good radar detector... ;)

Seriously, I believe logicallly the Recaros offer more adjustments for comfort, but there are some who still dislike the fit. Unfortunately, with a bad back I'm not sure if either would be suitable for you... :( Have you been able to sit in both at a dealer?

I often wake up with lower back pain that also flares up when slouching for too long while sitting down. It took weeks and a long road trip's worth of fiddling, but I eventually found the perfect fit with my Recaros. From where I started, the seat backs are more upright--the headrest is tilted forwards past vertical and ends up about two finger widths from the back of my head. The lumbar is at its lowest vertically and least extended setting. The seat bottom adjustment makes the most difference to me; it ended up at its almost fully tilted forward position for thigh support, but more importantly, it places the lumbar support perfectly in the small of my lower back. The side and thigh bolsters were a snap--I set those the first day and haven't really touched them since.

When sitting in them, I find that you really can't slouch in them, otherwise the lumbar support works against you and feels like it's really protruding from the seat. When I sit in them, I scoot my butt back into the seat bottom/back "pocket" and then sit upright with good posture and it fits like a glove now.

The oxycodone put me in the hospital. I'll live with the leg pain. I'm so finally glad I can get a high power GM car with an automatic, since my left leg is bad. My Z06 is a great car but hard on the leg. The wife has the 08 CTS, and those seats are real firm and holding up well.

I plan to drive a Recaro car before I decide which to order.

Thanks

Thanks for all of that. I'm hoping to get extended time at a dealer playing with all of the settings.

if you have lower back pain its usually because your muscles are weak in that region. i'd suggest doing "rows" with a machine and stretching.

Yes I'm a weak old man. That's my excuse for owning a Cadillac. :D

I herniated my disk (again) lifting my father off the floor back in March. I had 2 back surgeries for the same years ago. I'm not so good keeping up with the exercises to get the muscles strong again.

I have the standard seats and mine rocks like a rocking chair. I took it in and they put some washers in that are suppose to fix it but they did nothing. Anyone else figure out how to fix this?

I have the standard seats and they are very comfortable. Recently did a 1600 mile round trip - no back pains, no problems. Did a test drive in a V2 that had Recaros - did not like them - too tight. Would be ok If I were going to ride the track, but no such plans. Fortunatly we have a choice to select either standard of Recaro. I have sat in some of the aftermarket Recaro seats and found some models to be immedietly comfortable - they have the same multiple adjustments as the factory Recaro seat - but wider in the upper and lower body regions. There is a shop in my area that can install the aftermarket Recaro's with all of the safety features found in the V2. They can even match the OEM upholstery or customize any way I would like. I will check this out in some detail and report back to this forum. I am a senior citizen (70) and am starting to have some lower back aches. So I have to be very cautious to ensure that I have the proper seating and adjustments. I enjoy taking my V2 out frequently for long highway trips - going nowhere in particular - just out to experience the joy of driving such a fine automobile. We are living longer now and I hope to continue driving a Cadillac until I reach the century mark of my personal timeline.

^ good stuff Uriel. I have two complaints about my recaro's...seems like the ventilation/cooling on the seats sucks and i can barely even feel anything on the highest setting and when i shift ( manual ) and my back goes back to rest in the seat i feel a slight "pop" in the lower back portion of the seat. Kind of like there is a plastic peice that moves out when pressure is removed and pops back in when pressure is applied. Pretty annoying

I have back problems and for that reason I selected the standard seats. After reading all the negative comments and actually sitting in one I decided my back and comfort were more important. I have not regretted it. Not saying that all those who opted for the latter made poor choices be these seats are not for one with back problems or who are of a size that is not considered lean and slender.

i'll agree with that. I'm a pretty small waisted guy so the recaro's are a snug fit. They are def track made seats. Not necessarily made for a one fits all body type seat

I'm 6"2 250lbs, had a lower back operation a few years back and i finally got the Recaro seats right. Basically tilted the bottom all the way back (front totally up, rear totally down), get the back upright, position the seat away from the steering wheel so you can stretch your arms completely. Steering wheel is titled up so i can fully see the speedometer. Gives me good thumb position at the bottom during cornering.
Let the air out of the lumbar completely and then only use the bottom lumbar. I have it probably at 80%. Think of it as breaking in new shoes. The lower lumbar seems to slowly rises over time up and adapts to the pressure. Anytime your adjust the lumbar, reseat yourself. It will feel different.
I don't experience any rocking in this position, but i have felt rocking in some positions. At first the inside of the back of the seat will feel like its rocking.
When i first get into the car after not driving it for a day, it feels like i'm too far away from the steering wheel. But then when i got through a fast bumpy corner with the sport suspension it feels perfect. When I do a spirited drive, I can lean forward to control steering though tight corners. Seat is plenty big for me.

Hans.
