Im thinking about tearing a car apart part by part and weighing each component. So for us race guys and weight reduction we can see what does what and if its worth removing..

Just not sure if that is something people would think was worth the time...

I think everything you've done so far has been worth the time.

Well, I can't necessarily speak for your time, so...

But it's certainly been interesting. This'll be no different. If anything, it'll be the most piquing. Dooo eet!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Would love to shave some lbs. off this porker of a car.
Have you weighed the car in stock trim on a scale at any tracks? Curious of the actual weight.

Thanks,
Mark

I wouldn't tear it apart, but i would say start with the wheels and tires, as that is one of the more important weights. Then move on from there. Start with exhaust and even though there not any light weight replacements yet, hood, trunk and seats.

Beyond that someone would be getting pretty extreme as far as lightening the car.

I just think all of us should go on a diet and never drive the car with more then a gallon of fuel in the car :D Thats should free up some HP ;)

Hec while we are at it... leave the washerfluid empty too :p

I, for one, would be very interested.

Damn--it's things like this that make this forum rock...seriously...you can get some great information off of this forum.

And i thought you were way to busy. Jesse, you have way to much time on your hands. Maybe you could sell what your drinking and the rest of us can catch up with you. Cecil..........:worship:

i dont think it would be worth it as not too many v2 owners are going to gut their car

I wonder how much heavier (if at all) the recaros are vs the stock seats? and the company estiamte of 4300lbs for the auto, does that assume a fully loaded car (sunroof, recaros, etc..).

I wish this thing weighed 3365 lbs like my SHO ;)

I don't plan to gut my car--I've got my S2000 for minimal luxury, shifting sports car fun--but it would be interesting to know where all the weight went in this VERY heavy car. I say do a weight thread!

I can't believe this car is heavier than my RL, which was NO featherweight (just over 4000 pounds).

Jess,

Sounds like a great idea to me.

Pretty soon traction is going to start being a real big problem for a lot of us, thanks to you, so time to start losing some weight.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

we will just leave this thread as the weight thread and if people start yanking seats and stereos out to save some weight, then Ill sticky it...until then, let the carnage begin.

Did the NASCAR drivers just invade the V2 forum?

No one here is going to rip out their bum warmers, A/C, sunroofs (plenty of threads about that), automatic transmissions, and navigation for performance.

F: NO on the sticky :thepan:

Novel idea, unfortunately I wouldn't make it out of my subdivision on 1 gallon of gas :halo:

Haha I guess you are right, but it would be a very fast ride to the edge of your subdivision!

Iam only interested to know the actual stock weight of the car. I don't give much credit to the weight mentioned in magazine reviews

I don't get it. It happens just about every new thread.
.
There are people who WILL make their car a TRACK CAR and Will find credibility of knowing how much each part weighs. This will let them know which ones are worth tossing and which ones they can keep. This thread would be priceless to them.
.
.
There are others who find a thread like this useless and offensive. Why would anybody buy such a car and rip it apart. (seen thread about blowing the motor).

Can we all agree IF YOU READ A THREAD AND DON'T LIKE WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED THEN MOVE ON. DON'T DRAG THE THREAD DOWN BY OBJECTING. MOVE ON..... SAVE US ALL THE TROUBLE AND MILES OF USLESS POSTS.
.
Ok! done for now.. I have to go buy more Tampons :-)

i would love to know but start with items that can be easily modified like hood trunk wheels etc. My frined got a hood for his corvette and its abut 30lbs light then the factory one. also if you have time what can be taken out which is not needed. Now everyone dont start yelling butt warmers are important otherwise we would be in a different car. this is a cadillac incase anyone has forgotten

Agree.

Some parts that can be lightened up easily....just thinking of what's available for the S2000, shouldn't be much different for the V.....

Wheels/tires (hopefully the aftermarket will service V2s soon for those interested)
Hood (lots of carbon fiber hoods available for the S2000, someone I'm sure is thinking of the same for the V2....)
Buying the car without the Ultraview (but I gotta have mine )
Exhaust

I'd really like to know if the Recaros are lighter than the stock seats, too....

Jesse,

Great idea. Where were you when V1 came out? I'd love to have that data for the V1 :D

Heinricy said: "The biggest drivers for weight in the CTS-V over the CTS would be the supercharged V-8, the transmission, wheels and tires."

Yes. More facts are always useful. I just hope I don't need to wade through 15 pages of whining to find the facts.
