: My Double Din install ...

Check out my double din install using the stock dash bezel. I actually bought a single din install kit and was like forget it - its gotta be Double D's and nothing smaller (lol no pun intended hehe). I was very nervous trimming the dash bezel but took my time and did it right. I even ended up using the single din kit to fill in the sides haha. I only paid $8 for the single din kit when Circuit City was closing down.

Anyway, I am quite happy with my work although I should have trimmed the sides more so the filler plastic would be 100% flush but I guess it looks clean mostly. BTW, the head unit is a Pioneer AVIC-F900BT.

I have the F90BT did you tie into the Bose system? I have an slight alternator whine.

Nooo I did not hook it up into the factory bose setup (I planned to do when I first got the truck lol) but then I figured I probably will not get as much for all my audio gear if I sold it from my old truck so I was like f**k it and just hooked everything (except for door speakers) in the Esc. This is my setup now...

Pioneer AVIC-F900BT (Slow but nice for the price I got it)
Infinity 6022i on all doors
Infinity Reference tweeters - replaced factory tweeters in pillar (oem fit - yay)
Rare and never seen before, Ultimate Dual 2Ohm 15" Subwoofers x2 in spec box.
Directed Audio 450D 5 Channel Amp, 2 Ohm stable on all channels with a Class D Sub Channel which puts out 300W RMS @ 2 Ohms I think.

I just got everything hooked up and working today (I put my remote start alarm in first) and yeah I got a bad alternator whine so I ended up using my Ground Loop Isolators and the noise is gone completely. If you are getting noise just the headunit then I suggest you try a different ground as well. Wow it felt wierd hooking up my alarm and stereo setup after sooo long (I use to be an audio / security installer for many years in the past and I moved on and stopped doing it on the side or anything - too much damn time if you're by yourself)

Hows your bluetooth workin for you guys? these F series are good but they are still full of bugs even with the 2.0 update! but i still love it! You can do a whole bunch of mods with it. Check out AVIC411.com if you guys haven't you'll get the most of your F series.

Hey do you have an alarm in there? Be careful - seems like these are high target vehicles. That's why I put in my alarm first and next I am installing a proximity sensor that would trigger the alarm if someone is basically right against the door for a period of time. BTW, I wired my alarm together with my horn so its crazy loud lol.

I know some people would say "if they want it they gonna get it" but hey, nothin better than tryin to stop em besides not all thieves are that smart lol.

Yes I do, "NOW". I have the Python 990 2 way alarm with remote start. I learned it the hard way. them thieves were smart, I had the stock alarm so what they did was they broke the window of the passenger side and the went through the window and pulled my F900BT from there! they must have put like a thick bubble jacket type over the broken glass so they can put half of their body inside and pull the deck with out the stock alarm going off! You know if you have stock alarm it only go off if the door is opened! that sucks knowing these are luxury suv, suppose to have atleast an okay security system.

By the way, What kind of alarm do you have? I wanted my horn to go off also when my after market alarm goes off. How did you wire it? was it easy?

3 hrs out? PM me somethimes. I truely get around. I did the Autopage alarm, I got ripped off last spring. I took the trash out around 3:30am it was fine, went outside at 9am and had been hit. I sleep alot better now with the alarm. If they make a second attempt I'm ready. Do your add ons, back up battery & tilt sensor!

Hi, the Pioneer just fitted perfect in there and all I really did was cut the front bezel on each side VERY carefully.

Hey how can i unlock the original dvd so i can play movies will driving on the front?

This has been covered countless times, its not possible....

Look at my threads for a way to play dvd through the original screen with an EXTERNAL DVD player

The guy above is right - the only way you can do that is with an aftermarket head unit but then again, why would you want to watch movies or videos while the vehicle is in motion? Heck I thought it was hard enough to use the touch screen navigation while driving lol, especially considering how big these vehicles are, you cannot afford to stray off your lane - even just a little bit could be a disaster!

But if that's what you want then yeah, it has to be an aftermarket unit that needs to be "modded" or "rigged up" to do so. Not worth it in my opinion and I know here in IL, cops will fine you for that too.

Hey PCGUY, I am trying to figure out the best way to install a Pioneer F900BT as well. What do you recommend? You said you cut out the dash bezel, but how did you finish it off? Do you have a clean look after cutting the bezel?

Hi, I mostly used a flat file after I did the major cuttings for it to fit. As for the both sides, I used some flat black plastic and had it cut precisely to fit.

The F900 fits in the opening without the need to cut the metal, etc. behind the unit but it is a very tight fit and the wires can be a pain to get tucked away correctly but it will fit with a little effort!

So not to bring up an old thread... but how did you remove the dashboard bezel to install the F900BT? I just ordered an F90BT.... and I need to know!:-p

just pull it, dont be scared! start with the top left hand corner, and just be gentle!

good luck!

Hey its really easy - the bezel is just held together my those metal clips all around - so all you do is carefully pull on it from one side and it should slowly start to pop off. Oh and then you also need to lower your steering column (with the steering adjustment lever) and also put the shift lever all the down to like 2nd gear or 1st (Remember to put on the E-Brake!). This is so you can take it out.

Speaking of bringing up an old thread lol, I seen a guy bring up a thread (to contact the original poster) from like 3 years ago on a custom car forum, for an extremely rare and outstanding quality turbo header (company closed down) that was for sale and the seller actually still had it collecting dust and sold it to him for dirt cheap although he had to drive several hundred miles for it! Funny I just thought about that lol.

hey i know this a little off topic and this thread is a little old but what you were saying about the fines for movies going while you are driving. I live in Massachusetts and the fine here for that is 900$ if you ask me its not worth it to watch a movie while driving

Wow that is crazy! BUT, I think its okay to have rear monitors on while driving... Also, come to think about it, why would anyone want to watch a movie in FRONT while driving a big vehicle like this lol.

thats the only time I have to catch up with my daily soaps...... HAHA that is seriously a bad idea.... back to this topic, I wish they made a smaller touch screen nav unit that would fit in the 2002 slot without having to do a double din or a flip out....

can you explain a little more about the 'alternator whine' you dealt with? I've been struggling with this.

I cracked, I dumped my Jensen and got an Avic F700BT. I truely enjoyed the Jensen HU but I wanted my steering wheel controls back... Its a nice unit. What does the F900 do that the F700 doesn't?

this may be old school or of no use, but for anyone who needs one, I have a XM radio XMD1000 and the TERK xmdirect sony digital adapter. and the xm antenna. I took it from a truck i sold, and now no longer have XM. so anyone intersted let me know as i will let it go cheap. Or if you have a driver side fog light, or a rear tailgate emblem i will trade you.... just seeing if someone may need this.

edit: I just checked out the avic f700bt and wow that looks killer. When you get it hooked up would you or someone else who has this unit mind posting some more detailed pictures of it. from the installs i have seen, there are a few differant ways to deal with the gap on the sides, i just want it to look factory. I have the wood trim on mine, so maybe i could do something with that... oh man i should stop looking on this forum and getting ideas in my head....

you could always do what I did. Paid a guy i found on a car forum to make my 2002 opening into a double din. only cost me 135 dollars but the results came out excellent. He does this work as a side job.
