Nope, not from drinking, although I tried :bonkers:

I'm a big believer in the blacker the caddy the better; this past week was no exception! After having the body shop paint my grill and my taillights; there was no stopping me!

SO, with a little (read:complete) help from fellow forum member LuxuryLife33, my headlights are finally blacked out!

Lookin good man!

Did you bake and remove the lenses and then paint the inside on the headlights and tails, or use Niteshades for the tails?

I did the headlights for him... The lights were baked, lenses removed, chrome housing was painted flat black, yellow turn signals were painted with clearcoat with a couple drops of black paint so the light would shine through.

I did not do the tailights for him, but I'd imagine the body shop painted them with clearcoat mixed with a few drops of black paint. The VHT night shades stuff in my opinion is garbage. If you don't have access to a spray gun, then you could use it. The clear coat from a gun lays so much cleaner than a spray can. You will always have to wetsand and polish after it has dried.

Yeah, after the tails were done I thought about the third brake and how I should of done it too. I'm sure it's coming in the future.

Yeah, like luxurylife said, he baked the headlights and my tails were done at the body shop with a "muddy" clearcoat.

You can compound the insides a little bit with some rubbing compound. The oven should be turned on to 300-350 degrees, preheated, then shut the oven off, put the headlight in for 10 mins and should be ready to peel apart. If the glue starts getting hard again, you gotta repeat those steps. Paint them as you wish. Remove all the stock/factory glue. Now is the hard part. Seal them real good, but dont get sloppy with the glue. Use a tube of clear silicone with a tube gun. Failure to completely seal the lights will result in moisture accumulating on the inside lens.

Be careful when baking, use something to keep the headlight lifted off the pan, i use oven mitts, or else the plastic will melt to the pan. DONT MELT YOUR HEADLIGHTS, I MAKE NOOOOOO PROMISES! OVENS VARY IN POWER!

:crybaby: I am so stumped on how to do this. I went about removing my headlights and taking out the bulbs and electrical only to be stopped by not know how to remove a weird looking central screw that goes through the house. Argghh ...looks so damn good poster and good job LuxuryLife33

Does anyone have links on how to do it, that are Escalade specific? Much appreciated if you do!

Hey Sam Hamm,

I saw that you did and amazing job on your headlights. Once taking the headlights off of the truck how many screws did you have to take out before putting it in the oven? There is one weird one I can not figure out what to do with almost in the center. It has a plastic clip that goes around it. I also can not figure out how to get the wiring out. It is all connect at the bottom corner but can not get the black connection out, so I can feed all the wires out. I want to do this mod sooo bad :want:

yea i didnt have any problems except i tried to buff one of the lenses and it threw it across the room and broke a corner off. just a little foggage no biggie. haha i seriously have to get a new one asap.

and the way i was told to do it by the first guy i ever seen take his apart just to get the orange out was he left everything connected to the headlight still. you should have one ballast that disconnects and the other that doesnt. i left the bulbs and everything in mine.

this may be the absolutley wrong way to do it so if so please someone correct me so i dont ruin mine if i ever try it again.
