Hi All
I live near the Outer Banks (OBX) of NC and it is legal to drive on the ocean beach there at Oregon Inlet to allow surf fishing for 4x4 owners.
I previously had a 1999 GMC Yukon Denali. It had the 4HI-4Lo drive system and it never had any problems driving in the sand.
I was nervous about how the Escalade would do down there since I never drove an AWD vehicle in the sand.
Well, this weekend I took her down there for the 1st time and let me tell you, the AWD system on the Escalade works quite well in the sand.
I have the 20" wheels at 30psi. I did not reduce the pressure.
While driving in the deep stuff, I heard what sounded like the ABS system kicking. This actually bogged me down. It must have sensed that the wheels were spinning
So, I pressed the "Stabilitrak" button to DISABLE it.
This stopped the ABS system from kicking in and gave me full time uninterrupted power to all wheels.
I drove though some really deep sand, that was like the consistency of sugar, and my Lady drove right on through it.
My transmission temperature gauge climbed up to 200 degrees and settled out there. It normally runs 125 degrees. So the tranny was definitely working hard, but it never went above 200. As soon as I got back on hard pavement the gauge went back down to 125 within 10 minutes.
Here are some pictures from Saturday March 21 with a map to show my location. This is near the Cape Hatteras National Seashore
The ocean was rough that day with 30 MPH winds from the NE right off of the water

Great looking Escalade.. I was close to getting an ESV Platinum, but the wife said she didn't like Suburbans and that the ESV reminded her of one. I almost had her, but they ended up selling it behind our back. From that point on she was all about having the regular sized one. We are going down to Palms Springs in two weeks, I'll post some pictures. Great pictures

Love the smiling dog pic!

Thanks. That's Katie. 2 year old yellow lab
The whole reason for the ride on the beach was for her.
She has a blast, and I have a blast watching her and taking pictures of her and Mother Ocean.

Yes..the Cape Hatteras Ferry to Ocracoke...Home of Blackbeard.
I love my OBX. Please...all prey for this little strip of heaven to never be taken by hurricane. We have had some very close calls.

Here is an aerial view of Cape Hatteras Point. Those are all die hard surf fisherman with coolers full of cold beer.

Yes, you can see all of the sand bars (shoals) just below the surface of the water. Oregon Inlet is one of the most treacherous inlets on the east coast to navigate through. Just past the bridge (Bonner Bridge) is wide open Atlantic Ocean. 4x4 driving is allowed almost to the bridge (about 3 miles of coastline for 4 wheeling). This is the area of beach you see on the left side of the NatGeo picture. Excellent fishing grounds for surf fishing too. Big 25 lb Stripped Bass come in, every December
