Ok, so I'm a victim of the same problem that has plagued other Allante owners. Two of the sockets on the driver side are melted beyond recognition. I've seen the old posts about making sure the bulbs are the right type but does anyone have any experience in making repairs to the back of the assembly where the bulbs are installed? I am thinking i might be able to use a hole saw to drill out the damaged section and then try to find an old assembly off a GM car. drill this out and glue into place using an appropriate epoxy. What does anyone think? Stealth mentioned several years ago that someone was selling just the backs.....

Well I think I successfully made repairs today. I cannibalized the bulb holders from a taillight assembly from a 1980 to 85 Chevy Caprice. The curvature was similar to the Allante so the parts married nicely. Having a dremel made short order of cutting out the replacement parts and trimming the damaged Allante part. I used epoxy to fasten the new holders in place. While not perfect, it is certainly better than plopping down $300 to $500 for a used taillight assembly. With new 2057 bulbs and dielectric grease, hopefully no new damage will occur. Time will tell.

By the way, the cost of the Caprice rear tailight assembly was $30 from a grumpy SOB at the local used parts yard. I saw the same on line for around the same amount.
