anyone ever hear of a 4.9L 32V PFI northstar V8?? thats what i got in my 1992 Cadillac Sedan DeVille touring edition and everyone is saying that they didnt make that engine at all!!???!?!?!?

It's most likely a 4.9L 16V PFI V8 200 hp.

to my knowledge it doesnt exist.

Are you sure that what you have is a 32 valve engine with 4 cams? I have a '92 STS and it has the old faithful pushrod 4.9 that has only two valves per cylinder (it is a 4.9 though and the PFI is correct).

you probably got a case of somebody sticking a 32V Northstar badge on your trunk. if it's a 92, then you've got a 4.9. sorry to disappoint you! but, the 4.9 is a super engine!

Only upgrade that will give you a little more power is opening up the exhaust system and advancing the timing 2-3 degrees. This might give you an extra 10 hp at best. All the other mods such as intake, high energy coil, wires, K&N filter etc.... will just make your wallet a little lighter and not make any real gains.

something i have learned...who cares about more hp, torque is what is needed, and you will get plenty from upgrading the exhuast, intake, ignition, fuel, timing, and so on. see my post for some real good stuff called "4.9 external upgrades", and regardless of what some people say about my upgrades, my 4.9 can really burn the tires and smoke a lot of what is on the road today.:lildevil:

And lets not forget the Aftermarket H.P. Stickers that are easily installed under ANY Hood for increased H.P. Ratings. :rolleyes: AT very reasonable prices too.

yeah, i found out that all of my stickers put about 200 extra hp on the engine:D...you should see the car fly too. BTW, just added a jegs sticker, but seems to offset the power gain from the accel sticker, can someone give a reason for this?please let me know what is up, thanks.

..... my 4.9 had the origanal plugs + wires in it... has 91k miles now... the plugs were AC Delco platnium single tip... we put Bosch +4 plugs in (my father said he has very good experience with them) but the thing that got me was the wires... I didn't use a top-end brand (like I wanted to) the wires I have are Xact....they were like $30, 8mm and on the wire it says high-energy....

... I used exact wires on my Oldsmobile (3800 V6) as it was the cheaper way to go.... but on the Cad I wanted the best i could get, yet the AC Delco wires were $20, and my father said there is no point in spending the extra money.... are these wires any good for the 4.9? I didn't change the cap and rotor... that will be soon....

How many people always think there is a 4.9L N*....at least he doesnt insist on it..HAHa....to tell you the truth when I got this car over the 5.7 Caprice 9C1 ....I was pleasently surprised at the power and speed this car with the 4.9 could get too....much nicer then moms BMW.

i was dissapointed when i opend the hood to find the 4.9 in there , i wanted a northstar at the time . still got it and in the end i think ive got something that i dont have to worry about as much , i ended up with alomst the last (95 was last year) and best of the caddy desinged pushrods under 400 cubes

I know they never did, but I always thought that they should have made a 4.9 northstar, that baby would scream!!!!

yeah that would have been cool too. mabe someday the aftermarket for cadi aluminum engines will open up and some of these ideas will be brought to life :D
