We're not big fans of all the chrome on our V so it's gone. Matched the color to our wheels.
I was waiting for some sunshine to get decent pics, but we aren't gonna have any for a while. Here are some shots from inside the shop. Doesn't really show as well...

All that's left is to do the side window trim in trimblack.

To each his own.. looks nice.. but I love the chrome accents. Cadillac isn't even the blingiest... I think Audi is. They went so far as to BLING out their Head-lights with LEDs.

Led create a smaller package but not the best for visability to others similar to projectors headlights.

Nice to see the dechroming. Are they actually taking the chrome off? Stuff is tough to work with.

I checked with several pros on how to make the paint stick and went off their advice.
I blasted all the parts with ultra fine crushed glass at low pressure. Turned it all kinda white-ish. Hand sanded all the flat areas with 400. Then prep and paint. Not really that tough, just tedious. Lots of pieces.

The brite work around the side glass is a real head scratcher though, it appears the pieces on the doors have the rubber bonded to it, thats an issue. Also looks like complete door dis-assembly to get at the attachment point. The pieces that arc over the doors appear to just snap in. I haven't found a source that has removed them to give me pointers... yet.

I'm not completely against chrome, I have a 54 Chevy wagon that is dripping with it. A modern car though, covered in plastic chrome, looks bling (not in a good way).

I know, I know! Nothing but rain of late, and several more days on the horizon. Just as soon as it peeks out, I'm getting piccies.

Thanks for all the compliments! I also fully understand if it's not your cup of tea. Definately some colors look better with chrome, black, red. In my area, we're covered up with chromed over late model stuff and we wanted to go a different direction. I also could have left off more of the emblems but I think it says more changing the color on those too.

Hate to bust that hope but...
The actual chrome emblem is removable... but the grill has a flat area in the same shape made to recieve the emblem. I had thought about doing something trick in the crest on the grill, like the design by 8th day.

Another tip. Anyone who is thinking of removing all emblems, the crest and wreath on the trunk has locating holes in the sheet metal. The Vs and CTS do not.

Those disassembled pics are wild, Ketzer. I love someone's who has the intestinal fortitude to rip apart a brand new car to make it look like they want.

A flat black CTS-V (done properly with a clear flattening agent) with nickel accents would look insane. The good kind of insane.

CVP33

I don't know if you read the one attachment. The GTR was a vinyl wrap for $1,700. Took the company 3 hours to do the car. The best part is if you tire of the look, you simply pull the vinyl wrap off and you're left with the original paint in perfect condition with no nicks, UV damage or scratches. Not a bad way to go.

For those last pieces of bling, there is black tape / film you can use to cover it up. An auto sticker/graphics shop should have it.

Everlast13
05-17-09, 05:27 PM
Did you find an answer to the side window trim, I'd like to make mine black.

Ketzer
05-17-09, 09:13 PM
No. For a couple reasons,
The chrome trim is glued to the black shroud that wraps around it. Even if you remove the trim from the car, you can't seperate the chrome from the black plastic to scuff and paint it. Pop off one of the end caps and you'll see what I mean.

Removing the trim,
The upper piece that goes over the doors is easy. The pieces that are attached to the doors are just that... attached to the doors. You would have to strip the doors down completely and probably pull the glass to get to the attachment points.

You could be really careful and paint them on the car... but that deal with the wraparound black plastic... I dont care how good a tape job you do, it will look like ass when you pull the tape off.

Why do we own a V on the first place???? Mainly to be exclusive, wright? one of a Kind type of car, wright?, I personally don't think that all the accents that the car has is actually a (bling) like some of you and BMW owners like to call it, to me is just a statement saying I am a V not just a CTS, I don't mind people customizing it to they'r choice, but don't feel like you have to because hatters call it (bling), In my case I love this car the way it is, on looks, I just wish to make it a bit faster on the 1/4 mile. that's all.

I'm definitely agree with you on this one - (especially black :D), and don't mind modding the car to make it run up to it's full potential. Cam's, heads, etc., nah ... not with this car. But that's just me ...

Guess I wasn't clear - I meant opening up the intake and exhaust, and maybe adding a bit more boost with a pulley, and fine-tuning the ECM, etc. is OK with me for my v2. But doing more drastic stuff like cams, new heads, etc., just wouldn't fit with this car IMO.

Iam with you on this one,,,,just minor stuff, to get a little more out of it...that's all we need.. mid 11's it's plenty for this car to do, I think we can do that without compromising the warranty on this car, and we don't need mid nor top end speed in this car, we have plenty of that allready..

to me is just a statement saying I am a V not just a CTS,

A regular CTS and a V have the same amount of garish garnish. The only thing "saying" it's a V is the tiny V emblems.

In my area of the country, our parts stores sell more stick on chrome than motor oil. Door trim, window trim, trunk trim, hood trim, chrome tint on the windows, chrome giant wheels. This is not what I want my car to look like. If that is the look you are going for... good for you.

"Garish garnish"- I'm suggesting that one for the 2010 product literature.

Car's looking awesome, Ketzer! One thing you might want to consider if the chrome window surrounds are bugging you is electroplating. We have a guy who comes around and does 24k gold electroplating (I know, I know...) on the chrome emblems on DTSs for our older customers. They strip off the chrome with a chemical and reveal the nickel substrate underneath, then plate that with the "stuff" of your choice. I had him do the emblems on one of my cars in a "black chrome", and it looked awesome.

I'd suggest checking with your local Dealer, but I know you aren't too pleased with them. Maybe one of the other luxury Dealers in town (like a Buick Dealer) would have "gold guy" they could put you in touch with.

Ketzer

Razor,
The nickel trim would be f'n sweet! The trick would be making sure everything was the same color nickel... I know, sounds obvious, but I've seen a few streetrods where it looked like they used different processes on different parts, looked really half-a , and you know they spent big bucks.

Sorry dude but you better look again, just take a look at the front upper and lower grills from a v and a cts, I had an 08 cts 3.6 DI so I know how it looks like, also the 3 additional's V's on each side and back of the car, no they're not the same. it's more look's to this car than a cts.I am not telling you to go buy the big chrome wheels nor anything like that, I just love this car for what it is and for how it look's..
