I'm considering buying a Revcon motorhome, with a Cadillac 500 cid engine and Art Carr modified Turbo FWD transmission. Would someone be willing to tell me how to determine which year (and compression ratio) this engine is, please?

Thanks,

There's only really one way to tell.......pull one of the heads. A casting number under the valve cover could tell you whether or not they are small or large combustion chambers but there were different piston designs used. The size of the piston "dish" changed the compression.

Thanks, Lux, it sure doesn't sound as easy as a serial number search! Having no idea what year model the donor car was, I guess I'll just have to hope it was a good one. Could one assume the earlier, higher hp/torque/comp. ratio engines would NOT run well on regular, while the later, subdued models might?
