Does anyone think the Duramax would fit in a 96 Fleetwood? How bad would the engine mounts likely be considering that engine bolts into the trucks the same as the smallblock... Yes, I want to convert to diesel.

Yes, I want to convert to diesel. 96Fleetwood 03-06-09, 09:53 AM There is another member here who is putting a diesel in his '94 Fleetwood. Are you doing it for the mileage/durability? Diesel is expensive and wouldn't that motor cause the car to be front heavy? dirt_cheap_fleetwood 03-06-09, 11:53 AM The Duramax is one heavy engine. You would need to seriously beef up the front end to keep it all aligned and riding right. VortecCaddy 03-06-09, 02:11 PM You will definately need some sort of heavy duty spring, possibly from a truck. You will also have to change the sway bar to accomodate for the extra weight. Possible brake upgrade. It sounds like it should be a fun project. As stated before, someone else is doing this sort of swap. They took the engine and transmission from a 2000 Silverado. They wrapped the fuel lines and tank in electric heat wrap and ran it on used vegetable oil. cadillac_al 03-07-09, 08:44 AM Some of the students at the Technical college I go did that to a 95 Brougham in 2001. They took the engine and transmission from a 2000 Silverado. They wrapped the fuel lines and tank in electric heat wrap and ran it on used vegetable oil. Now that's a worthwhile project. :2thumbs: Cadillacboy 03-13-09, 07:34 PM Not cost effective but should be very rare VortecCaddy 03-15-09, 05:51 PM A true car enthusiast does not worry about cost!! | |
