I have a 1994 Cadillac seville with a 4.6l v8 northstar and the engine went (head gasket leak) and was wandering if a can swap it out with a 1993 deville 4.9l v8?

No. Different trans. Different PCM. Probably motor mounts and other things I'm not thinking about.

Why why why if your going through the hassle of switching to a different motor would you ever pick a 4.9? Swap a fwd Impala SS running gear, it'd probably be easier. Personally just stick another N* in it and do basic maintenance and you probably wouldn't be in this situation to begin with.

I think that it would be possible but it would be alot of work and you would run into alot of problems. I think that it would be less work to fix the Northstar. If your up to swapping engines out then you should be able to tackle the HG. I just finished my first HG/headbolts project, biggest job I ever did but I finished it and it works! even with a few extra bolts left over lol. That always happens to me.
Dont get me wrong I love the 4.9, it always amazes me how much power it has and it will run to 200,000+ miles with no major problems unlike the Northstar HG. The problem is the 4T60E that it is mated to. You will go through 2 of them for every 4.9 engine.

I have seen a lot of 4.5L & 4.9L Head Gasket failures, so what would the advantage be?

Well i was going to have a friend do the work and he said its best to get a rebuild or one in good running condition instead of getting a junkyard one. so i saw a 1993 deville with a 4.9 on craigslist for 600 compared to 1000-2500 for a junkyard or rebuilt motor. Anyway didn't think it would work but doesn't hurt to ask.
