View Full Version : help RWD front speakers!! buthatsabuick 07-04-04, 05:45 PM hey im looking to fid out what 4x6 speakers actually will fint ni my 84 coupe deville i tried some infinity 4x6s plated but they were just too big. i dont want to use the $6 autozone ones but im thinking those are the only aftermarkets small enough to fit what are you guys using? Dead Sled 07-04-04, 11:44 PM I used Kenwoods best I could find and still fit. I wanted infinitys but the mag was huge and wouldint fit. but the kenwoods I found fit great Greg B. 07-05-04, 12:31 AM I used Eclipse 4x6's in the front, and Eclipse 6x9's in the rear. Sounds freaking awesome. I think they run about $130 for the front pair. I was using an Alpine 7894 head unit, until it got ripped off. :( I'll get another Alpine soon. 90devilleguy 07-05-04, 01:02 AM pioneer 4 x 6's should fit in perfectly they have a small magnet on them but work very good.120max watts 30 RMs i think. Mystical_Ice 07-05-04, 01:07 AM i fit two memphis 4x6" speakers in the front dash. the holes didn't match up, but with slight modifications they're in there good and tight. Mystical_Ice 07-05-04, 01:27 AM and by the way. why "butthatsabuick" instead of "butthatsachrysler"? ;) MB quart also makes 6x4s. I only use one as center channel, but it fits as a glove in the factory location. buthatsabuick 07-05-04, 03:14 PM and by the way. why "butthatsabuick" instead of "butthatsachrysler"? ;)
THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES FELLAS! :canttalk:
and its buick cause i went from 87 new yorker to 89 centrury to 72 catalina and now to 84 coupe deville. dont tell nobody :suspect: Mystical_Ice 07-05-04, 03:15 PM are you sure about that? because if that's true i might get a pair of them, and it'll be really embarrasing for you if i get them and they're just like the memphis 4x6s, and don't fit... We run accross this problem all the time.
If i were you i would just find a good quality built pair of 4x6s that sound great and "Make" them fit :) Don't sacrifice "size" for "Quality"
I had to do some cutting on my front 4x6 dash holes with a single hack saw blade (with handle) to get the Huge Vented Magnets to fit in the OEM holes.
If your speakers come with rubber boots around the magnets>take them off before the install. are you sure about that? because if that's true i might get a pair of them, and it'll be really embarrasing for you if i get them and they're just like the memphis 4x6s, and don't fit...NO, please! I confess, I made that up, I don't have 6x4 MB quart! please, please don't buy them, because I don't want to be really embarrassed!!:histeric::histeric::histeric:
Please. I gave an option, that happens to be perfect for my car. Am I sure? yes, I installed it myself. How am I supposed to know if they fit exactly the same in all other cadillac years and models? Please. I gave an option, that happens to be perfect for my car. Am I sure? yes, I installed it myself. How am I supposed to know if they fit exactly the same in all other cadillac years and models?well i was under the impression you had the same year cadillac as i did, a 1994.
an OPINION? you stated that it "fits as a glove"... i'd say that's a plain statement. if you said it fits like a glove in your car, i'd assume it should fit like a glove in my car since they're... oh yeah... the same year and model. i mean no offense man, but i didn't want to go buy a pair of speakers only to find out that you THOUGHT they'd fit, and then be stuck with the same situation i had in my 80 cadillac.
and yes, you'd be embarrased, because if i bought them and they didn't fit, i'd call you an idiot for saying they would, and you'd have no excuse :) My original post says OP-T-ION, not OP-IN-ION. See? mine has a T, yours has I and N in it. Option and opinion do not mean the same. Again, the same advice I give you all the time: You need to READ CAREFULLY if you want to get the most out of your IQ.
Last time I checked, a few days ago you posted this in response to Matthew: i have two 4x6s in the dash, (replacement for the stocks) In your own words, you had 2 in the dash, and all the '94 devilles I know only have ONE. You even had plans for modifying that car's system (the tweeter's location, remember?)
Now "suddenly" you have the same as I do. Curious, isn't it?
You still have the nerve to say I could be embarrassed by anything you say?
He. HE. HEHEHE! Mystical_Ice 07-06-04, 05:44 PM My original post says OP-T-ION, not OP-IN-ION. See? mine has a T, yours has I and N in it. Option and opinion do not mean the same. Again, the same advice I give you all the time: You need to READ CAREFULLY if you want to get the most out of your IQ.
no, your original post said: "it fits as a glove in the factory location"... but i'm sorry, i misread it as "opinion" :)

ummm yeah? i have modified my 1980's system. and it was my 1980 (which has two 4x6s) that i said i was going to put the tweeters at the top of the door pillars. the 1994 i've only had a few weeks, and i was asking you if 4x6 would fit. but i was saying, that my 1980 i had trouble fitting the aftermarket 4x6s in, so i wanted to know if i'd have the same problem with my fairly-new 1994... not hard to understand man.
Now "suddenly" you have the same as I do. Curious, isn't it?
:helpless: well i'm not going to try to 'convince' you i have one. *shrugs* you don't have to believe me, i don't care.
You still have the nerve to say I could be embarrassed by anything you say?
He. HE. HEHEHE!
yes, i do, because once again you've jumped to conclusions, thinking i was talking about my 1994 when i was in fact talking about my 1980
you see, when i said:
i fit two memphis 4x6" speakers in the front dash. the holes didn't match up, but with slight modifications they're in there good and tight.i was referring to my 1980 cadillac, because i know they have the same front speakers as his 1984 cadillac. then you said you fit a mb quart in your (1994) cadillac, and i asked if you were absolutely sure, because if you were, i'd get for my (1994). i didn't want to go buy it and have the same story as i had with my 1980: didn't fit, and i had to modify the dash slightly to get them to screw in. The only car I have read from you until NOW is one with 2 dash speakers.
Nevertheless, you expect me to know that you own a 94 without you ever posting about it.
You are incredible, kid. buthatsabuick 07-06-04, 07:37 PM i didnt want to start a battle here i am kind of weary to go with memphis because as we all know the RWD and the FWD cadillacs are pretty different i had pioneer 4x6s in my buick and they did pretty good so i bought some of those hopefully this weekend i can tell you guys how simple it was to install and how great they sound...hopefully Best of luck with your install, man. I think you will be happy with the pioneers. Mystical_Ice 07-06-04, 11:06 PM The only car I have read from you until NOW is one with 2 dash speakers.
well about a week ago i posted a thread saying how i just bought a 1974 coupe deville, in pretty good condition (i posted pictures too). a few weeks prior to that i bought a 1994 cadillac.
Nevertheless, you expect me to know that you own a 94 without you ever posting about it.
i never expected you to know i had a 94, but perhaps you shouldn't have jumped to conclusions that i was still talking about my 1980 or 1974 cadillac... if you'd taken the time to read my profile, you'd see it's listed in with the cars i own...
i don't know, i guess i kind of assumed a little too much from you. i replied to your post of how you put a 4x6 in your 1994 cadillac, and said "are you sure that fit yours, because if it did, i'll put in mine too!" or something to that effect. i kind of assumed you didn't think i was talking about a 74 or 80 cadillac, but that i was talking about the same year car, or at least more or less the same car as your 1994  i guess it was I that assumed too much
You are incredible, kid.
it's a fact
kthx Yes, you assume too much. You assume I would be interested in reading your profile, or any post you've made that is not related to car audio.
Read your first reply again. Do you think I would feel like helping you after reading that?
Seriously, I don't have any problem in sharing what I know with you and help to make your system as good as possible. But if you have that kind of attitude, we'll never get anywhwere. My offer is there, take it or leave it. Mystical_Ice 07-07-04, 02:15 PM Yes, you assume too much.
i didn't assume anything. you assumed i was talking about my 1980 cadillac... it's you that makes false assumptions
You assume I would be interested in reading your profile, or any post you've made that is not related to car audio.
well before you go making a fool of yourself if you'd read my profile you'd see i have more than one car, and i was talking about my 1980 cadillac, but now i'm talking about the 94
Read your first reply again. Do you think I would feel like helping you after reading that?
i don't need, want, or require your help... i just wanted to know if you were telling the truth when you said it "fit like a glove" or if you were saying it just so people would think you're cool

well if i came off looking like i had an attitude i apologize, i just wanted to make sure they'd fit, and that you weren't just pulling something out of your ass
kthx Mystical_Ice 07-07-04, 02:18 PM and its buick cause i went from 87 new yorker to 89 centrury to 72 catalina and now to 84 coupe deville. dont tell nobody
OK, because i saw your post on LiL, and i thought the name seems familiar, particularly since they're both asking the same question ;)
:D STS 310 07-07-04, 03:53 PM Diablo and Mistical
Both of you are to go to your rooms and think about your behavior!!
At first I was getting a little annoyed with your quibbling, however it has started to entertain me to some degree.
You guys are great.:bonkers: Mystical_Ice 07-07-04, 06:39 PM well this guy's a real know-it-all.
anyone who can't understand the concept of someone having more than one car (and hence talking about the sound systems on their multiple cars) really has a problem  STS 310 07-07-04, 06:59 PM I have heard great points by both of you guys. There is no doubt in my mind that you are both very knowledgeable in the field of car audio.
I think my only questions to Diablo and Mystical would be:
How many installs and how many variations: custom, SQ and SPL
Of course the most experience would definately indicate some level of expertise especially real world applications and not just quotes from Car Audio and Electronics or some other type of media related to car audio.
Then again what do I know?
Carry on. I am sorry you have to ask, STS. I thought you could tell the difference just by reading our posts. Mystical_Ice 07-08-04, 01:17 AM well hey, apparently people don't see you as knowing as much as you THINK you know Mystical, Don't fool yourself.
He has acknowledge that I know my stuff.
What I can't believe is that he takes you seriously after reading your concepts.
Anyway, I'm not going to keep this going. Mystical_Ice 07-08-04, 12:52 PM Mystical, Don't fool yourself.

it's acknowledgeD... past tense, not present.
anyway, while he's acknowledged that you "know your stuff" he's done the same to me lol.
my concepts? yeah, the concepts i share with thousands of other car audio enthusiasts. your problem is you think that the way you do something is the only right way. you need to learn that in car audio, there's many ways of doing something, there's no RIGHT or WRONG way in some matters, it's up to a person's personal preference.
and you also need to learn that charts and graphs and figures don't lie. if something's been tested and the results are obvious, it doesn't matter what all your "experts at car audio" say... they are just words, with no proven backing.
