Hello,

I'm shopping for an XLR and just stopped by a dealer tonight to look at a new one they have brought in. It's a black 05. While checking out the car I noticed that both front quarter panels have screwed up paint. The best I can describe it is that it almost looks like areas of paint pealed off the original coat and it was just painted over. The edges of the pitted areas are melted looking and not hard edged which makes it hard for me to figure out what caused this. It was only in these two areas by the headlights on both sides and nothing on the hood. They say the carfax shows it clean with no accidents.

Any ideas what this is? any record of this with the XLRs?

Cheers,

Matt

I have a 2005 XLR in red and it has pretty much the same problem. My "bad area" is on the top of the right fender.I probably had the car a month before I noticed it. It only shows up when under the flouresents in my garage and you have to be at the right angle and REALLY looking.I have no idea as to what caused it.

I've seen several XLRs with this same issue that I know haven't ever been repainted.

We had a certified '05 and a brand new '07 XLR at my dealership that exhibited the exact same problems. It might have something to do with the fiberglass body the XLR uses.

Me wonders if any Vettes have a similar problem. I am too lazy to look at the Vette forum.

Regarding post #4,the xlr is Carbon Fiber, not Fiberglass.Good thought anyway, could still be the problem.
