hello, My name is Faraz.

I am in the market for a 2005 cts v, and i found one that i am interested in and i test drove it today and loved everything about it. I have several questions about the CTS V since this will be my first american car.
I have own several cars such as : 2004 twin turbo 350z, 2005 supercharged g35, 2002 s2000 and lastly my 2005 m3.

I think im ready to go to an american car now, so i was wondering if you guys can help me out a bit.

**** The Car i saw today was a 2005 Cts-v
miles: 39k
color: silver
warranty: warranty still exist till july 2009

The guy I am getting it from is a retired person and says he could not drive the car because he cannot shift gears..

mods:
1) he has K&n intake (worth it?)
2) he has magnaflow exhaust . how good is this?
3) a bit confused but he says he has this thing called "predetor diablo" and its tuned on it.
* how exactly does this work, he couldnt explain it to me, he had mention that it has a little more hp and tq but if you take it back to dealer you just plug it in and set it back to factory setting.
4) He says the Nav system is not updated with the new mapping . how can i update the nav cd or is it even not worth it?
5) i find it wierd that he had 265 kumhos in the front and 255 in the rear, why wider tires in front? he didnt have explaination?
6) before getting the car, should i check something else out, it has clean car fax..but is ther any other major problems i should look at?

thanks for your help guys

The K&N intake wont make much difference until you get an aftermarket camshaft. It does look and sound cool.

Magnaflow is a good exhaust. It is one of the louder exhaust. I chose it because it was the least expensive and sounded better (in my opinion) than the more expensive Corsa and B&B.

265s in front and 255s in rear? I run 245s in front and 275 in rear. He sounds like he needs to check into an assisted living community.

How much is he asking? For a 2005 with 39k miles I would think $19k max if it is really clean.

***Do you know if the rear differential has been upgraded to the 2006-07 rear?***

Others please chime in.

is this normal, while i was driving he plugged in the dvd player, i thought you cannot watch dvds while in motion, he used the nav to display the movie while driving?
is this a mod or thats how the cts v comes factory?

he also have this "BB" upgraded throttle body, is that worth it?

Watching a DVD can be done while driving without any mods.

BB upgraded throttle body? Hmmm...not sure about that brand. Ask him what size the throttle body is. If done properly (and tuned correctly) this mod may yield several rear wheel horse power.

.

^^important, but if you're still under warranty you still have time to get a new one.

a BBK throttlebody? I don't know what you'd get out of that on an stock engine, but what the hell. Probably useful when you get a cam.

Yes you can override the DVD player in the Nav, read all about it here: www.caillacfaq.com

the guy bought the car from a NJ dealer ship and they explained to him, and had the car for 8 months, and cannot drive the car any more, so he is limited on answering question
because he keeps stating i have to call dealer and ask them.

he said he hasnt touched anything and just left it the way it was.

1) what do i do about the predator? how do i put it back to original setting, and if i want to get it tuned or retuned, any place in georgia? or close by?
2) what do you mean " If done properly (and tuned correctly) this mod may yield several rear wheel horse power. "

Thanks

The predator is a tuning tool. A tuning tool to get more horsepower out of your engine. You are better off ordering a Wait4Me tune.

When someone upgrades a throttle body is basically lets more air into the intake manifold thus adding a few horsepower. To make sure that everything is running correctly you will need to get the car tuned. Your best option for a tune is Wait4Me. (www.wait4meperformance.com) He will send you a very well tuned PCM for around $160. You tell him the mods on your car and he will make the perfect tune for you. Unless you HAVE to be dyno tuned, Wait4Me is your best option.

VIN checks are for supporting members. 5 bucks is small compared to piece of mind when buying a car.

Most obvious thing is the Onstar antenna.

CadiBlk
02-27-09, 03:24 PM
05s have a prettier OnStar antenna (rand49er mentioned) and as for reliability you might be able to find a 05 that will still have a little bit of warranty left.

Or you could buy an 04 with less that 5000 miles and then put it in storage for 40 years and then when we are flying around Jetson style in Obama hope fueled carplanes, you can bust it out and we can all think back to the good ole days when American muscle reigned supreme.

Now how do i know that the rear has been changed to 06-07?

Any claims done previously i should be concerned about?

Warranty still exist till 2009 of July, once i get it should i get the car checked on recall or done anything else under manufacture warranty?.

Thanks
