: 285's in the rear, is it possible?

I have been told by fellow forum members that I can run 255 35 20 on my STS4 on all four corners (40 mm offset, 8.5") with no worries of rubbage. Call me a fool but I would like to take it a step further and put a staggered setup on my vehicle. I would like to know if I can get a 20" rim, 9.5" wide, with a 35mm offset on the rear of the vehicle. This rim would be potentially coupled with a serious peice of rubber, 285 30 20. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or is there anyone out there that has this setup on there vehicle? Thanks for your time in advance....:bighead:

No problem! We usually fit the vehicles with 20x10.5 in the rear on a 295 tire.... (see attached)

Dr. Design, thanks for the great news. One last question, will the 35mm offset on a 9.5" rim be okay on the rear and will a 285 30 20 fit on a 9.5" rim? Thanks for the information once again......

I just got a set for mine. Not fitting them until spring though.

I went with 20x10 rears. And 285.30.20 tire.
It's a serious peice of rubber.
I cant wait!

Oh, and with a 9.5 rim, I would probably look more towards a 275 personally.

Hello,
Unfortunately I do not have the offsets of what it needs to be. But that should work if you are only using a 9.5" wheel. Just make sure you know if you are going to run big brakes at some point or not.

Thanks,

Dr. Design, from your experience......can I mount a 285 30 20 on a 9.5" rim? And I don't think I;m ever going to run bigger brakes, this is the wifes car basically. I seldom do drive it.

Hello,
Based on the toyo tire guide, the recommended size range for a 285/30/R20 would be 9.5"-10.5". This is considered the approved rim width. If the wheel or tire is outside of this range, they consider that unsafe. So you should be fine based on what you have mentioned thus far. Please let us know if there are any questions.

Thank you,

Offset is a key element in fitting wheels. The question has been posted before with no response; What offset is used on the wheels D3 is marketing/selling/supporting/recomending? How can you NOT know? Proper wheel/tire fitment is vital and you can not brush offset and back space differences under the rug. So the question still remains, what offset on a 9.5" will fit with out any issues? Can you run a 35mm on a 20x8.5? What about a 20x9.5" or 10"? Do you need 45mm? If I remember correctly, the stock STS-V rears are 55mm offset.
