The Wheels that are on the car now aren't going to be on there, there just a set so I can roll it around. I'll post pics of them once there mounted with tires

So far whats been done is:

Full Digital Air suspension
Front Disc Brake Conversion
Shaved Handles, Moldings
HID Lighting

that's about all ill get into as of now (you'll have to stay tuned for updates)

Nice work! Similar setup to what I have done on my Ponitac. Can you tell us about the air setup? Type/size of bags, brackets, lines, valves, tank(s), compressor...

Also, how about some info on the HID conversion? I would be interested in converting my 4 light setup...

The air ride consists of

4 Air Lift 2600lb Dominator Bags
1/2" line
1 8gallon air tank
3 Firestone compressors
1 Easy Street Digital Air Management Controller

On the HID Conversion all i did was bought some 5 3/4" Crystal housings off ebay for like 30 a pair. and added a set of the HID bulbs and balasts to them.

The top lenses went in fine with a little bit of "persuading" the trim ring to fit.

Since the aftermarket housings are about 3" deeper than the sealed beam oem lights the bottom lamp housing had to be modified for the lamp housing to fit.

All that was needed was to remove the small "bubble" on the inside of the fender to give clearance.

I will post some pictures when im not so busy trying to get this thing driveable

The whole car will be satin black, with color matched trim, bumpers and wheels

Satin black is getting boring. That car is cool... put some gloss on it! A nice metallic will really make that sheetmetal pop :D

I could never paint it gloss black, id spend most of my life dusting it. My boss has a 65 all gloss black and I don't want him thinking I want to be "little Brother"

I was going ot do Flat, but it looks to much like a primer and every fingerprint will show

thus.... I do satin

No no, I didn't mean black! I meant gloss, but a different colour. Maybe a nice two-tone! I could see you breaking the colours on the swoop crease from front to back with a nice pinstripe. How about silver up top and a nice candy blue bottom?

I think that color combo would look great.... Just not on my car.

I am a very simplistic person, and everything I own is either black, or white. From cars to clothes. I couldn't stray off and have a vibrant color messing my whole scheme up.

I love candy's and pearls and metallic's but its just not my style... black to me is the perfect color. It represents simpleness to me and that is how I live my life.

Maybe as I go through life I will see the importance of color.... But for now its only black and white.

That thing is beautiful!!! I'm not the biggest fan of the satin, but the wheels really put it together. I would love a 68 convertible myself. Congrats! great stuff!

I would agree if I were going to keep the chrome bumpers and trim. My plans are to have everything that isn't black now ( bumpers, window trim, wheels, etc. ) powder-coated a Satin Black and then paint the car satin to match. What is on there now is just a flat lacquer so I could make it all one color for now.

Wicked car, I love it! Being new to the whole classic car realm and being pretty ignorant about air suspension how does the air ride feel compared to the original ride? More or less comfortable. I'm thinking about the same thing however the current cloud feel is very important.

Well if I remove the shocks, it will ride semi-close to a factory ride. The shocks I used are very stiff and I am thinking about just using the air bags all by themselves. The airbags I used are 2600lb ones so there a little firmer than the normal 2500lb or less that I see a lot of people using. They are also located in the same exact spot as the OEM springs so there was no geometry changes.

Don't ditch the shocks. It will be bouncy. Go with a softer shock if you have to. What shocks are you running?

I am currently using Doetsch Nitro Slammer 4000-G shocks, The only shock I could find with the collapsed/expanded lengths I needed to get full range from the bags. (yes they are rated to be extra firm) so I am on the lookout for something else that i can use.

Yeah good idea, Putting "white" wall tires on an all black car... so it can look like every other "Rat Rod":cookoo:

I love black cars with white accents. Better than looking like a "Homie Rod"

Come on, satin black isn't exactly ground breaking these days... ;)

I never really liked the idea of relying on a popper but I do think it would make a car look better

01devilledts
10-20-09, 10:35 PM
Yes, I have solenoids on the doors, and also a power window relay module in case the popper doesn't work i can roll my window down to reach in and open manually.

And as far as progress goes, I am in the process of swapping out the 472 to a 500 motor right now. and cleaning up the engine bay and replacing any worn bushings.
I will put a few pics up tomorrow.
