Does anyone know what a '74 Coupe DeVille with a 472 would have for a rearend stock? I'm just curious about mine, and I'd rather not have to jack the car up to find out.

Angela Desmond 07-03-04, 10:18 PM Definitely a 10 bolt, I'm pretty sure it's an 8 1/2 " ring gear, and posi was an option.Numbers are stamped onto the right hand side of the axle tube about 3" out from the differential. Haynes manual doesn't have the codes for those numbers but Chiltons should. It tells the year of manufacture and the gear ratio. By '74 highway gears were in vogue, so figure on somewhere around 2.70:1. That's a guess, but it should be close.hope that helps. wurstarme 07-04-04, 01:36 AM Thanks for the info, much appreciated :) Keith 07-07-04, 04:26 PM My '75 SDV came with a 3.41 gears Angela Desmond 07-07-04, 08:05 PM I can only gasp at what your gas milage must have been with those gears! :bonkers: | |
