A friend of mine is buying one, my instinct is to stop him as I always hear bad things about Land Rovers reliability-wise....Any opinions out there?

lol Land Rover and reliability don't even belong in the same paragraph. Love Land Rovers but I would never buy one.

My 2003 Range Rover was one of the most reliable and trouble free vehicles I have ever owned at 100k miles. I still regret to this day having gotten rid of that truck for the pile of crap M3 that came after it.

With that being said, that is NOT the typical Land Rover experience and 2005 was the FIRST year of the LR3. The motor in the LR3 is the Jag V8 which is reliable enough I suppose, but oil leaks and electrical problems do still occur. Unless the truck comes with a COMPREHENSIVE warranty, I would stay far away.

Wasn't the LR3 supposed to be a bare bones off-road machine, Land Rover capability without the LR pricetag? I knew when it came out it would just be a cheaper way for people to say "I have a Land Rover"

I guess every factory has had that at one time

You are probably thinking of the freelander/lr2 rick. The lr3 was merely the replacement and name change of the decades old Discovery.

The only people around here that drive Land Rovers are weird wackados even more eccentric than the normal resident. They all affect a British accent and wear a bush hat. Weirdos all.
