Just felt like sharing my happiness.....
Man I thought I had it good with windows media center, just got directv hd-dvr tons of channels crap load of HD channels too which is what I really like. Had hd channels on media center too but only locals over the air. The best part is it's a pretty little box that just sits there and does it's thing silently...much better than a damn computer crashing all the time and not recording the things I want to record.....so the reason I posted, any cool things about directv I should know about?? Ive searched for a few hacks for my receiver hr21-100 pretty much all you can do is add an external hard drive...anything else out there?
The only thing I'm gonna miss about media center is a program called life extender. Stripped the commercials from all recorded shows at night.
My first step to becoming less dependent on windblows  I see OSX in my future.

My first step to becoming less dependent on windblows  I see OSX in my future. How about running DirecTV through Media Center? I've had DirecTV for over 13 years and have always loved it. Comcast runs a scam with more HD "channels". Those channels are largely on-demand stuff.
But when you just want to channel surf, Comcast doesn't come close. And the signal is pimp...
you can run comcast through media center and still get HD, but your forced to run a pre-built computer with cable-card build in.....You could run directv through media center but it wouldn't be HD...I do remember hearing something about either dish or directv making something for media center...which would be cool, but I'll stick with the little shiny box sitting under my tv :)

i should know this, but i dont...does anyone know wether uverse or any other kind of fiberoptic net service is available in fayetteville nc?
I hate Direct TVs menus and layout and prefer Dish. NFL Ticket is the only reason to get Direct IMO.
We have Direct at work and I have Dish at home and I find the Direct remote cluttered and cumberson and the guide in backwards order (channels go UP as I scroll DOWN?? WTF????) and I HATE all the PPV channels occupying the space between the local channels and the 200s. Shit is just in the way.

edit your favorites....menu->system->favorites....then take out the ppv channels..
as for the remote, I use this...

as for the menus, I'm used to it....it's how media center works.
