View Full Version : So I bought an XBOX-360 Red_October_7000 02-11-09, 02:46 AM At work we have the various XBOX-360 models. The Elite has been on clearance for $349.97 for some time. While we don't get our discount on game systems, there was a $50 giftcard I could get if I bought it, so I picked up one of the last two. I don't even have my HDTV yet (my SONY PROFEEL monitor has the bet resolution of any Non-HD display device I've ever seen, so I won't suffer). Anyone know any good games? We have literally 4 and they all suck, Lego Indiana Jones, Kung-Fu Panda, MLB Baseball 2008, and some Wrestlecrap game that's like $1.97, NEW. We also have Guitar Hero Aerosmith, but as I don't have the guitar that's rather useless (I also suck at GH and don't really see the point). So what are some GOOD games for this thing? I know it can also play most of the old XBOX games too. I already have Fallout 3 and Supreme Commander for the PC, so naturally I don't need them, and will purchase GTA IV for the PC as well. Suggestions? Forza 2
Gears of War 2
Call of Duty 4 or World at War
Lost Odyssey if you're into RPGs
Mass Effect
Enjoy tman2093 02-11-09, 04:47 AM the Halo trilogy. Specifically Halo 3 if you want to play online. My gamertag is ASeriesOfToobs. The correct spelling was already taken.
Also, be careful with GTA4 for the PC, be sure your system can actually handle it. Mine exceeds all the specs, yet the game couldnt even muster 1 frame per second. Just be warned. It plays fantastically on the 360.
Download the demos on Xbox Live as well, theyre free, and you can play a decent amount of the game in most games. Ill be buying Sonic Unleashed after I finish the Halo trilogy, then GTA4's new downloadable content. Blackout 02-11-09, 07:12 AM At work we have the various XBOX-360 models. I would say to get GTA IV for the 360 instead. Because if you really get into it Microsoft has exclusive rights to their add on's for the game and they've already released at least one add on. Guitar Hero Aerosmith edition was the worst of the Guitar Hero series. Music sucks, there's nothing new to do in it. You beat a level that's it. There's no buying new songs or new characters or new anything. If your looking for an extra wireless guitar controller them PM because I have an extra one I'm not using and want to get rid of. gears of war and gears of war 2 is really good so is army of two. Starts a little slow but after while it gets awesome dirt_cheap_fleetwood 02-11-09, 12:42 PM I recommend COD4 over COD World at War. 4 is just more fun to me. Forza 2 is also amazing as well as Test Drive Unlimited (you can get that cheap now). Recently I have taken a liking to the Orange Box. It has a lot of great first person games as well as Team Fortress 2. I play TF2 a lot and I really enjoy it. Sometimes the little kids get annoying but after about 9PM they all go to bed anyway. The Tony Show 02-11-09, 12:50 PM Gears and Gears 2 (shooters)
GRID and Forza 2 (great racing games)
Fallout 3 and Mass Effect (if you're into RPGs)
If you want to pair up on Gears or GRID, send me a FR (The Tony Show). so is army of two. Starts a little slow but after while it gets awesome
army of two is a blast on co-op nmaier2201 02-11-09, 02:12 PM I'll sell you my forza 2 and Gears of War... both were really good games nmaier2201 02-11-09, 02:13 PM or halo 3... that was a great game also... I could part with it I guess...... shoot me a PM if you want Spittin Game 02-11-09, 02:42 PM the Halo trilogy. Specifically Halo 3 if you want to play online
Halo > Halo 2 > Halo 3
If Halo was online instead of on shitty Xbconnect which lags terribly, thats all Id play. So for online play Halo 2 > Halo3.
Halo 3 is the suck! The Tony Show 02-11-09, 05:46 PM Bunny hopping around a huge open field and trading shots to the face = lame. How HALO ever became a sensation is beyond me.
Gears, on the other hand, requires tactical play, teamwork and use of cover. Teams with good smoke and rush or flanking skills absolutely dominate, and it's a hell of a rush to overwhelm another team through skill as opposed to camping weapon spawns or having a faster trigger finger. tman2093 02-11-09, 06:58 PM Wow, the halo ignorance is overwhelming. I'm going to speak in its defnese, hope i dont ruffle any feathers.
Bunny hopping is what noobs do, because they suck at aiming their gun, the hop around and toss grenades hoping(and hopping) to kill you. when you get playing with people who know what theyre doing, its much better. And only one or 2 levels are mostly open, those are annoying to play on anyway. I like the smaller stages with more places to hide, its eisir to sneak up behind people and kill them.
The campaign of halo is the better part of the game, and I suggest halo 3 for online play, because more people play it than halo 2. The Tony Show 02-11-09, 07:08 PM No feathers ruffled- I just don't like the "stand toe to toe and shoot each other in the face" gameplay (because that's what it turns into unless you one-shot someone). Popping in and out of cover, doing SWAT turns and mantling over barricades makes a Gears match feel like a real gunfight, which is way more fun (in my opinion).
Different tastes. tman2093 02-11-09, 07:14 PM I've not played gears yet Tony, so I don't know, but I'll download the demo and see if I can get a feel for what you mean.
And true you have to shoot close range in halo, IE less than 40 feet away, catching someone off guard and killing them is where the fun for me comes from. Blackout 02-11-09, 07:23 PM I've not played gears yet Tony, so I don't know, but I'll download the demo and see if I can get a feel for what you mean.

I'm more of a run and gun type of player so thats why Halo interests me more then GoW's online play. But nothing is better then sniping someone from the other side of the map right in their dome. The only thing it's missing is the dudes voice from the Unreal games going, "HEAD SHOT" The Tony Show 02-11-09, 07:24 PM Gears will take you some time to adjust to if you're a big Halo player. After hundreds of hours on Gears though, I find most FPS games unplayable since I'm constantly tapping "A" when I get next to a wall to take cover .
The A button in Gears is your lifeline. NEVER just stand next to a corner or behind a car- get near it and tap A to "stick" to the cover. From there, holding the fine aim button (L trigger) causes you to lean out or pop up, press R trigger to blast off a few shots, then release L trigger to duck back in cover (especially if you're reloading). Nothing beats playing GOW noobs who try and rush you while you're in cover- unload a clip into them while they're in the open, then run up and finish them with a curbstomp or chainsaw to the face while they're bleeding out. :lildevil:
Playing in the more tactical fashion will make other FPS games seem clunky- it did for me. Blackout 02-11-09, 07:27 PM Gears will take you some time to adjust to if you're a big Halo player. If you tactical shooters then you must love the Tom Clancy games. Rainbow Six Las Vegas (the first one) was my favorite of his games The Tony Show 02-11-09, 07:32 PM Those are fun too, but I have a hard time playing them online. It takes such a small amount of damage to kill you that most experienced players run around looking for you, then back off and toss a frag when they find you- instant death. Add in the fact that you can't hear the grenade landing over the gunfire, and you have no time to react at all. After about 3 days solid of "run around level stealthily, find opponent, take cover and start suppressing with SMG fire- only to have a grenade fly over the desk and kill me", I got sick of it.
Gears is a little less realistic in that you can soak up a few rounds before dropping and there's a big audio and visual warning on grenades (plus they only kill you if it lands right at your feet), so some of the cheeseball tactics don't work. tman2093 02-11-09, 07:34 PM Gears sounds like fun actually. I'll download the demo and see if it is something i may want to get eventually.
I like the tactical fighting, thets how I play the Halo campaign, can't get away with that in multiplayer though. My only issue with shooters is that so many people have zero life and know every little area to snipe people from. I played COD4 one time online and that's all it took for me. Other team would have camping snipers with their sites fixed onto the spawn points and every time I would spawn I was killed immediately Spittin Game 02-11-09, 08:07 PM Wow, the halo ignorance is overwhelming. Whenever you want to see people that jump around and slaughter you without "hoping" you just let me know...
More places to hide? Haha, thats called camping and thats nooby. :helpless:
And the campaign is lame, no one buys Halo for the campaign.
But yes, more people play H3 than H2 now, but H3 sucks! Pick your poison though, I will set you up against some H3 players I know or you can play me and my boy in some H2 and see how much we "suck at aiming". Red_October_7000 02-12-09, 02:36 AM Wow I started a flamewar!
Anyway, I don't do FPS games on consoles as I learned them on the PC way back in the days of Wolf 3D and DOOM and the like, so without my trusty mouse and keyboard I'm lost. That said the XBOX has USB connections so if I can hook up a keyboard and mouse to it, let me know... The same goes for the GTA series. The controls on a console have me comletely at a loss with these games. Again, I started on the PC. I was playing IV with my girlfriend's daughter's boyfriend the other day on their 360, it IS an awesome game but I just can't get used to aiming with a stick.
I already have Fallout 3 for the PC. It is awesome. Well the story sucked but the world was fun to play in.
I will look for FORZA and such. Patrick7997 02-12-09, 10:03 AM All the Halo games are great... these complaints are nitpicks. The single player campaign of Halo 2 was short and unsatisfying, but Halo 3 was a great capstone to the series...
also, when you finish it, sit there through the 20 minutes of credits and let it roll... There is one last scene that literally gave me the chills, it was so great.
Prject Gotham Racing 3 and PGR 4 are great, and can be picked up for nothing at used game stores... PGR4 got some bad reviews. don't know why. I love it.
I was never into Guitar Hero, but with my friends, nieces, nephews playing it I got a deal on GH3 and a guitar, and then ordered the Gibson Explorer Guitar controller (an extra one) off of amazon for $20... And I have to say, I am hooked bad. It is fun.
The Tomb Raider games are fun too, and can be had cheap at used game stores...
And, hey, welcome to the party! What took you so long??? OffThaHorseCEO 02-12-09, 12:34 PM man, i cant believe noone has mentioned left 4 dead. that game is FUN.
the box does look cheesy and cheap and the graphics arent as polished as some other games but it is extremely fast paced and fun. the only thing i hate is Bill stealing all my kills haha...
also i picked up Virtua Fighter 5, played it once and put it away for like 2 weeks. decided to play again and chose someone other than AKIRA and it too is an awesome game once you get used to the controls. akira is probably the hardest player to play with, to me.
mortal kombat vs dc is a good party fighter
gtaIV is good.
ive never played gears of war or gears of war 2. i gotta pick those up soon
