The college auditorium was probably about 2/3rds full, but the acoustics were outstanding. They changed it up a bit since the last show I attended (Quincy IL, 2005?) by playing Desperately Wanting without a break in the middle. Lots of hilarious Winston Churchill impressions (a Westminster College thing), and excellent crowd interaction. Laughed my *** off. Best damn ten bucks I've ever spent, ever.

And there was MOAR COWBELL!

As expected, it was everyone from age 5 to 45, since they got started in 1987. The band members are now in their early to mid 40s, my mom's age, but you couldn't tell by looking. As 1994 (their biggest selling year) gets buried further and further into the past, the crowds get a little bit smaller, which is fine by me.

Kevin Griffin was asking everyone to come down to New Orleans, buy a cocktail, and help rebuild the city. I yelled back "TOO MUCH CRIME!"

Bonus: They made fun of Tom Daschle.

Its seriously refreshing to hear a band that stays together and still uses melody, harmony, structure, and standard instrumentation. No gimmicks. No drama. Just catchy music that feels good. That was a fun decade.

I used to see them a lot in the 90s when I lived in NOLA. I prefered Cowboy Mouth among the local bands.
