View Full Version : Meet Newton. He is a dog. Just picked him up an hour ago. He's calm, quiet, and playful. Not high strung and reasonably agreeable (for a beagle) when being walked. He's taken a liking to the fence behind the music store next door as a place to relieve himself.

He's a year old, and the previous owners are letting him go because their boxer gets jealous (as I observed).
Can't wait to wrap him in bacon and put him over the grill!
Just kidding. ryannel2003 02-06-09, 11:09 PM Beagles are the bomb. I have one myself, and she is aggressive and extremely jealous. She doesn't like people very much, which is strange for Beagles. I love the bitch though. He's cute. Not long before he'll have you all wrapped up around his paw! Its only been a couple hours, but he is transitioning very well. I followed him around the house up and down the stairs as he sniffed everything in sight. The last owners gave me his familiar toys and his old bed, which seem to help.
He was a bit confused at first when I opened the gate, like "Who are you and where are we going?". It took a light tug to get him to come along, but he quickly obliged. He hopped into the back of the Buick and had a really pleasant ride home. No barking, no whimpering, just tons of curiosity. He's walked around the neighborhood twice now and there's much to smell!
This little guy is going to get spoiled. My beagle I had as a kid lived 18 years. She was a wonderful dog. Your beagle is a handsome dog. I'm sure he'll be a good friend to you for years to come. gdwriter 02-07-09, 12:23 AM Nice dog, Jesda. Hoover sends a "woof" to you both. gdwriter 02-07-09, 12:27 AM Its only been a couple hours, but he is transitioning very well.Hoover transitioned immediately, although I got him from a shelter. When I finished up the adoption paperwork, I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride; he nearly ripped my arm off lunging for the door and I barely got the car door open before he leapt into the back seat. Brought him home, and it was if he had lived there all along. dkozloski 02-07-09, 12:30 AM One thing that beagles do very well is bark. They are even better at howling. Their voice will carry for a mile. http://www.q45.org/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/newton6.jpg
He also skipped over his bed and decided to sleep in mine. He's going to hate life when I start snoring. RightTurn 02-07-09, 12:39 AM Wow, congrats Jesda! Newton is a cutie; I love Beagles. Looks like he's getting settled in. gdwriter 02-07-09, 12:41 AM He also skipped over his bed and decided to sleep in mine. He's going to hate life when I start snoring.Hoover did that, too. He's quite the bed hog, but since I reportedly snore like a freight train, he bails and heads for the couch sometime during the night. tman2093 02-07-09, 12:49 AM He's a great looking dog, looks like he's full of fun.
Too bad my roommate is against me having a dog, only another year and a half and she'll be gone and I'll probably get my own place. I have a daughter-in-law by the the name of Newton ...... she is neither a dog nor a pleasure to be around; she is a lawyer and can be quite a bitch!
Your Newton, looks to be quite the mellow fellow ........ as is, from my experience, characteristic of the breed. My first dog was also a beagle. A lovely little female named Susie Q, unfortunately circumstances didn't permit our being lifelong friends. My best friend had a Beagle named Benny, who looked very much liked your fellow. Benny was totally satisfied to be just a great dog and comfrted his master and I through the turmoils of adolescence; always there for a reassuring nudge or look when the sh*t hit the fan, or our efforts on romance's joisting field came to a bad end!
So I hope you enjoy your new friend and find his canine companionship to be as rewarding as all my canine friendships have been to me over the years. Night Wolf 02-07-09, 01:59 AM Very nice dog!
To be honest, I have been thinking about getting a dog myself... but I've got 3 (!) cats.... for me, it came down to the cats over dogs because I am a single guy gone at work for long hours, the cats are totally fine with that, typically dogs prefer the compaionship of another dog, or a person... and, while not on a regular basis, I do go on weekend or extended weekend trips on a somewhat regular basis, and it would be hard to find (and get expensive) someone to always watch the dog, taking it along can be tough too... so I just set the cats up with extra food and water, a clean litter box and they enjoy having the house to themself.
I take it Newton is goign to be around for a while? So you are back from Florida now? I~LUV~Caddys8792 02-07-09, 02:39 AM Can't wait to wrap him in bacon and put him over the grill!
Just kidding.
Or are you? :skeptical:
Hahaha, that's horrible though Jesda. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. ;)
Are you bringing him to Chicago?
When I was like 5, we had a beagle for a few weeks. It ran away eventually, so we got cats. thebigjimsho 02-07-09, 07:09 AM adopting dogs is the bees knees... I take it Newton is goign to be around for a while? So you are back from Florida now?
LOL, I have yet to go to Florida this month. Stupid Chrysler dealer still has the Crossfire. Worthless f@$^@$^% MOPAR dealers. I~LUV~Caddys8792 02-07-09, 10:00 AM LOL, I have yet to go to Florida this month. Stupid Chrysler dealer still has the Crossfire. Worthless f@$^@$^% MOPAR dealers.
You shoulda taken in to the place where SLKs are delivered into this world... I bet your service there would have been better. What'd you bring the Christfire in for anyways? RightTurn 02-07-09, 11:33 AM Jesda--did you rename him Newton or was that already his name? When we got a dog a few years back the previous owner had named him "Little Bit." (That's not a NAME; that's an AMOUNT.) That name had to GO. I was surprised at how fast he recognized the new name we gave him. dkozloski 02-07-09, 12:40 PM Like Harry Truman said, "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog". Now you have a loyal friend. Your grocery bill will go up but your blood pressure will go down.
When I first got married, when I came home from work my wife would hand me my newspaper and slippers and my little dog would run around barking at me. Now when I come home my dog brings me the newspaper and my wife runs around barkng at me. submariner409 02-07-09, 12:47 PM Buddy of mine adopted a Florida Greyhound. Poor dog was so whooped up on steroids that her haunches were red. Took her 6 months to come down. Her name's Mabel. Fastest thing on earth......she can literally outrun a thrown tennis ball....loves to play and does not need a leash (this is country - what's a leash ?) Mabel and Grady (Setter) are real rabbit-chasing mudhounds. Inseparable. You shoulda taken in to the place where SLKs are delivered into this world... I bet your service there would have been better. I've seen a few shows about greyhounds, they make great family pets, people tend to think they would be a skittish dog,but their not,
it's great that when they are "retired" from their racing days they find a good home, so many of them are just considered disposable when their racing days are over. Florian 02-08-09, 01:47 AM fooking hate beagles....noisy, stinky....just awful.
