I have a 2003 CTS with the Navigation package which also happens to include the CD player and radio station options on the same screen. I'm looking for advice out there for fellow users with the same system.

By saving the station as a preset it sometimes saves the 101.1 or WKQX or even the name of the song. How can I get the presets to remain only to say 101.1 instead of changing to the names of the songs all the time?
For example see my 6 presets below.

101.1
105.9
94.7
97.9
Houses <--this represent Houses of the Holy which is a song title.

Ooops <--- Now this is the new song playing and saved as preset
103.5 <--- this changes from call letters back to a number.

So is there a way to keep the presets static so they don't keep setting to song names? I know the easy answer you will say is to turn off RDS. I like RDS so is there another way it can be done?
Thanks.

I have turned off RDS, and that didn't help - mine does the same thing. The dealer has my car and this is on the list of things for them to address.

Your display will scroll between the frequency, name of the station, and song title and artist if the station supports that.

The way I fixed mine was when it scrolls to the frequency (101.1), press and hold the station button to set it. It will save it as the frequency, or whatever is being displayed when you set it.

Mine doesn't hold that way, the softkey buttons still go blank or to some abbreviated song title from a song that came on that station when I first started the car (and it doesn't even have to be on that station).

Same here. Only happens on one station that I know of. (listen to very little radio other than talk shows anyhow... although XM is changing that!)

I found that out a couple weeks ago when some of my presets would be song titles I wasn't listening to. I did what I described above and now I only have either the frequncey or the station name. I dunno.

I doubt it's something they can fix. It's got to be a design flaw in the navigation product itself. Without replacing it entirely with a new model that doesn't have that feature, I do not see a solution.

Did they tell you they could fix it? Under warranty? Keep me posted on their solution if you don't mind.

Thanks.

Thanks. Hopefully they'll have a software upgrade. Cuz it is full of bugs!

According to GM:

-------------
Appearance of Navigation Radio Presets with RDS - kw appearance display information navigation operation U2V UAV #PI01692 - (Jan 26, 2004)
Appearance of Navigation Radio Presets with RDS
.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

When setting the presets with the navigation radio tuned to a RDS station, a customer may notice that on the preset tab located on the right hand side, it displays part of the song title or music category instead of the station frequency. An example would be if the radio station is sending out the name Soft Rock, the preset tab may display only Rock.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This is a normal characteristic of the navigation radio.
