I have a 1993 northstar that wont run well. 2200 idle. The engine bogs and has zero power. I have no codes hidden or past. after a few days, the chk eng light will come on with a MAP code...and it will run great for a day. I have replaced the MAP, o2 sensors, TPS. did a recent starter..high idle came after that...no noticeable intake leaks though...adjusted the IAC screw as low as it will go...no change. new fuel filter, plugs and wires. Car has a history of a similar problem and a shorted wire/arching in the fuel tank...Please help! I must sell this car for rent money, and am losing my mind...

Have you tried cleaning the TB? I'm thinking maybe the throttle plate is not closing completely because it is too carboned up.

OK...for the record...I have an 05 CTS-V lol...so that will get some of the boys settled down. Yeah sorry..posted and forgot which group i was in...lol yeah cleaned the TB. My hope was to drop this N* motor into a 88 Fiero, but I'm out of work this month and need to sell the STS to pay bills. Actually had my second interview at Cadillac today, of all places... go figure...anyways...this thing is getting under my skin...i hate not being able to diagnose something. I think the next step is to identify proper sensor parameters thru the self diagnostic mode in the defroster unit and try to chase down the culprit..I would appreciate any advice out there...besides any true V fan owned a N* at some point, right?

adjusted the IAC screw as low as it will go
Did you get it to retract first?

Yes. It Still contacts the Throttle base though..my goal was to back it all the way off until there was clearance and then walk it back in....I failed at the TP and idle learn steps...need to try it again tomorrow... (New TPS went on her also)

Not sure exactly how you did it, but here is the procedure. Press on the plunger. It should retract. When it bottoms out, unplug it. Idle will drop to about 450 or may even stall. Now adjust the plunger to a 0.60 gap.

Also be sure that there are no leaks in the intake ducting, filter box is on properly etc.

Problem solved...I replaced a leaking fuel pressure regulator and repaired a vacuum leak. Car is running well. Thanks to all who helped.

Good to hear. And I didn't need any Austin Powers pics, either...
