: replace XM with MP3?

After my XM preview I am not going to subscribe to XM radio. Not worth it for me.

I saw the pictures that were posted of the back deck removed and it shows the XM radio housing. Does anyone have the Wire harness/ connector map for this unit? I want to see if it would be possible to replace this XM unit with a external input from a MP3 player since the XM is already an input on the factory radio. I can only hope that there is some other system in use here than the Class 2 serial bus that can be taped into!

Thanks,
Reed

Reed,

When I bought the V (5 weeks ago now) I was sure that I was 3 months and out with the XM; I just couldn't see getting roped into a radio subscription. But I have gotten to like it since with my xm1 and xm2 presets I can always find something to listen to that I like, and my tastes vary from Boneyard to top tracks to Classical to Kids and beyond. I almost never use the CD player except to blast Led Zep "Rock and Roll" when taking friends for test drives.

So I think that I will keep it after all, recognizing that $120/year could buy me a lot of discs.

My disclaimer here is that I have 3 cars to choose from and I have a six mile commute. True I have not touched the other cars since the V arrived, but I suppose my "XM exposure" is perhaps less than your average XM equipped driver.

How long have you had yours?

Doug

Mrbadass - Have you tried to put an MP3 dvd in the dvd player yet? Or in the cd player?

I took a year subscription at the suggestion of some friends. Its great for music and info diversity, its digital etc etc BUT it has no damn bass. Its an acoustically flat bandwith. The thing needs an equalizer or something. The FM radio sounds much better. I popped out the Bose junk chinese driver and installed a real sub in its place. Also going to add a 150 watt amp with a high level input to juice it up a little. Its good but definetly Lo Fi..

DigitalPmp,
I did try a MP# dvd-r, but it did not work.. I will try again.. Have you had luck with this? The web brower is not functional enough, but it may be able to play embedded music as well....

XM sound quality is one reason I also hate it. I happened to have a CD in the player of a song that was exactly the same song that was playing on XM one time (CD was burned from a compressed MP3 no less). I switched back and forth a few times and the difference was ASTOUNDING! The CD was SOOOO much better. You can definitly hear the highs and lows cut out on the XM. Not worth my money.

that is why I want a MP3 player integrated. Anyone think the removal of XM and addition of a MP3 player in its place will work?

Thanks,

Reed

I do seem to remember trying MP3 DVD-r and CD, but I think I had any luck with this (it was a while ago, give me a break). Please post your findings and hopefuly we will be able to get a decient MP3 player (CD, DVD (hopefully), or MP3 device (Ipod - 40Gb (http://www.apple.com/ipod/), DJ20 - 20Gb (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dj_20?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs), or Nomad Zen - 60Gb (http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=21&product=9288))

Miscreant,
Can you get the connector chart for the XM module?

How about the connector chart for the stereo itself. Instead of just the XM portion. There maybe non used Aux feeds in the back of the unit.

Those diagrams are on the FAQ (www.cadillacfaq.com) and on Miscreant's site (ctsowners.com).. .no joy there..

I am thinking about finding a way to use a PAC adapter to replace the XM radio (which sits under the rear deck)
