MY cd player in my 97 deville stoped working a few days ago. It starts up and I can change the stations but no sound. Should I buy a new cd player ? If so, this is yet another reason to buy a new cd player
What cd player do you guys recommend ?
Come on guys, some help please
Sorry Wicho.
A little more details will be very helpful. It tuns on. Ok. That means you have power supply to the head unit. Do you get sound when listening to the radio?
If not, do you hear any noise at all, a hiss when the volume is way up, or is it absolute silence in both cd and radio?

did you mess with any of your speakers or head unit, or an area close to any of your speakers or the head unit, before this problem started happening?

Radio just died, as well as the cd player. No hissing, nothing coming from speakers. I never messed around with it or anything. Any ideas what it might be ?? I was thinking of buying a new cd player
Ok. Your head unit does not seem to be the problem. Now is time to check the connections and amplifier status.
Remove the head unit and make sure the connectors are properly attached. instructions: http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalCadSeville1.htm
Then you'll need to locate the amplifier (use the same site for help), and also check the connectors. Is not unusual that bad attached connectors get loose for a number of reasons, specially in the trunk.
It could be something else, but the previous are common causes for a malfunction like the one you described.
If you check them, and the problem is still there, I would take it to an audio shop in order to verify if the amplifier is working. (I'm assuming you are not familiar with multimeters and wiring diagrams).
Seems to be the amp, haven't tried checking it because I don't want to make a mess. I did check the cd player installation and it looks ok to me. The cd player looks like it was installed by a 4 year old. It's a total mess. The tan plastic that goes around the cd player is filled with black glue, the cd enclosure is held on with 2 screws, it's horrible. I want to take it ot a local installer but am not sure of their experience with cadillacs. But oh well, I'll buy a nice cd player and have it installed plus have it checked out.
Thanks for the help guys !

For a new CD player I would go with Alpine or Pioneer. Pioneer is what I went spent my bucks on. I picked up a Pioneer 7500:coolgleam
