My sister has a 1998 Cadillac Catera.

Recently her mechanic told her the car is only about 5 of which have a special engine, presumably a test engine that was planned for racing, and that he has to special order some engine parts for the car whenever heís doing repairs.

Can you help me, or direct me to a resource to, do some research on this car, and these limited edition engines?

He hasnít charged extra, but wanted her to know about the limited number of these engines that were delivered.

I have several collector cars (not Cadillacís) and have no idea where to start searching.

I appreciate your help and guidanceÖ..

The VIN # of her car is: Vin# 1 W06VR52R5WR159154

I've never heard of a racing version engine. Pictures might help get answers.

I also have a 98 Cat I ran both VIN #s (hers and mine) both came back with same engine "Engine: 3.0L V6 MPI" Maybe her mechanic has inhaled 1 too many fumes

Just for laughs, where did you see this when you "checked"?

Yea no don't, this is the Omega engine. Alpha and Opel last I checked are very different companies.

Hi,

the 3.O l V6 GM engine, which we have in our Opel Omegas/Cateras were used from 1999 until 2004 in the
Saab 9.5 Sedans and Wagons with a FWD setup and a
turbocharger. Saab is a part of GM.

AlFa, not AlPHa Romeo is NOT part of GM, it's part of
the Fiat Group, together with Lancia and Ferrari.

The 8th letter in the VIN tells the complete story. The engine in your vehicle is no different from the engine in several other Catera's of the same year. Your posted VIN code reveals an "R". Case closed! Body by Opel, Engine Omega, manufactured for GM. Hope this helps.
