I'll add more to the thread as photos are taken.

We decided to take the Cadillac to Washington. Spokane made national headlines for ridiculous snowfall and the Crossfire won't move unless its sunny and dry out (wide 19" tires).

We stopped at my brother's apartment in Columbia to pick up a few items and get something to eat. This is the grill he backed over a few months ago. Apparently he worked out a deal with the owner for replacement.

Ambient temp: 68F! It was actually a little muggy. I should have recharged the AC.

I can't remember what city this is. Might be KC.

Checked into a "Guesthouse" in Denver on Quebec St. Only $34! Thank you, Mr Shatner and Priceline.com. The hot water wasn't working so they gave us a second room at no additional cost.

1.99 Triple Stack. Wendy's mostly disappeared from St Louis so this was a treat.

Trucks were toppled over on I-25. Warnings said to avoid the route if you had an empty trailer. Apparently not everyone listened. The Cadillac was blown pretty hard as wind gusts varied from 50-70mph. I held the steering wheel quite far to the left as winds blew the car hard to the right.

Wal-Mart rocks! In the middle of Wyoming at night we were able to pick up a snow brush, oil to lubricate the door hinges, and a power inverter so I could get online from the road. The availability of 24-hour Supercenters has completely changed the way I travel across the country.

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/45590-2/DCP_3290.JPG
Terrible snow drifts in Montana, combined with high winds, resulted in near-zero visibility. At some points I was parked on I-90. We decided it would be wise to check into a hotel in Livingston, MT.

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/45605-2/DCP_3295.JPG
$49 got us the Livingston Inn, owned by a man who owns a bear. He brought a bear named Adam into the lobby (not while we were there) to pose for photos.

The place was recently refurbished. I was impressed with the hot water pressure, amenities, and comfort. The bed and pillows were SO soft. Free candy!

By morning the roads had cleared.

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/45611-2/DCP_3297.JPG
Winds were still severe and snow drifts were heavy, but at least it was possible to see the road during the day.

Cocky and impatient drivers stuck in ditches.

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/45632-2/DCP_3304.JPG
We took a detour and headed north to Great Falls, Montana to visit a friend and his new wife. My ex-girlfriend (his sister) was there, so I didn't care to stay long.

After a game of monopoly we headed out on 200-West, a mountain road through Lincoln to Missoula. The STS persevered through blizzard conditions and steep grades, never losing traction once. The car earned my deep respect.

In Idaho we ran into DENSE fog, slowing us down to 20mph at times. It was more tedious than dangerous.

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/45635-2/DCP_3305.JPG
It took four days, but we finally made it to Washington. The snow started falling heavily the next day, adding eight inches to an already messy situation.

I don't understand why people in this town, which gets lots of snow EVERY SINGLE YEAR, have no idea how to drive in it. People were moving too fast, making sudden moves, following too closely, and failing to use momentum to avoid getting stuck. I passed quite a few stranded city buses, trucks, and SUVs.

I saw a pickup truck plow through an intersection and tap the nose of a Pontiac Montana. They both blocked the roadway as they tried to talk to each other from inside their cars. I laid on the horn and held it there until the guy in the undamaged minivan gave up and drove away.

A brilliant idea -- take a piece of toast, cut out a hole, and insert an egg. It was heavenly.

The Seville parked behind Bo's Jeep. You can see next to it how deep the snow is -- its as tall as the car! Earlier, I used the front bumper to carve into the snow and create a parking space in the street, which was also a great way to scrub the filth off the car.

More photos to come in a few days...

Holy crap. I have an identical set of pictures from Brookings, Portland, Hood River, The Dalles, Pendleton and John Day... Even down to the food pictures, though mine is an amazing bacon and cheddar filled double decker taco from Taco Bell.
Also, instead of a lost steer it was a goat for sale that I took a picture of the sign...and the windmill farm on the Colombia River Gorge is freaking HUGE...but I took a very similar picture to yours.

We also didn't stay in hotels. We stayed in an abandoned Dodge motor home without an engine one night, at a friends another night, at a friends sisters another night and with some girl that we met in Portland for some more time.

And we found a Rug Doctor van in a river, after a twenty or so foot plunge over the snow-covered-just-right-to-form-a-ramp guardrail.

kind of ironic the van was a "RUG DOCTOR" van, seeing as you had spent some time with a chick from freakin PORTLAND, talk about a sign:eek: LOL

DAMMIT! I miss cross country trips. Was suppose to take one this summer but an accident in my Town Car put a crimp into those plans. Haven't done a full cross country trip since '04. I did do a trip to Chicago for a weekend in August.

All my friends are married and the single guys I know don't want any part of sitting in a car for more than 6 hours...

Any chance you might make it down to Portland this trip? Betty's been out in the crummy weather and did amazingly well in the snow we had here (it's all gone now), so she's almost as dirty as the Seville.

Hey Gary...I'da gotten ahold of you on the way through, but we were moving pretty good with lots of destinations already squished into not enough days. I'll be back up your way again one of these days. Hood River calls for me quite frequently... btw, the museum's got some very nice additions since you were there last, if you get the time to head north and kill a half a day. There was no wind to speak of this trip either, just lots and lots of snow and a little bit of slush.

Its tempting! Last year I went to a rave in PDX for new years. This year I intend to kick off 2009 by sitting in front of the TV, sober, with sober friends. 2008 was hectic and dramatic. I intend to make the following year as dull and productive as possible. I'm getting puritanical.
:lies:
I'm sure this will all go out the window the moment I show up for a Cadillac meet.

If I had $4k, I'd buy it. It's the cleanest '92 STS I've seen on the internet so far. However, there was a stunning '93 STS with 34k on here not too long ago that blew them all away.

Feels and functions better than it looks.

The Accent's clutch was light and the gearbox was reasonably precise, yet forgiving enough for stick-shift newbies. There was sufficient power to climb hills and put around town without feeling like it was lacking in power, and in the snow it was unstoppable. It wasn't fun like a Focus, but it wasn't crude like a Cavalier. That's the full extent of my review. I give the car a 7/10 for its class.

In the Jack In The Box drive through on New Year's Eve, a 98-02 Honda Accord was behind us, stuffed with five out of control guys. Three of them got out of the car and had a pretty heavy fistfight, then the driver got out and tried to calm them down. One punched the order box at which point the drive through attendant said they would not be served.

Sean and Cassie had me over for dinner, and I helped out with their web site. I still cannot get used to the idea of friends my own age being married (I'm 27, they're 26). Somehow, it scares the crap out of me, like a voice is saying "YOU COULD BE NEXT! WATCH OUT BUDDY! ITS GONNA GET YOU!" They are very happy, and she cooked some unusually tender champagne chicken and white rice.

So far, its been a very boring visit. The weather is awful, people can't drive, and there's no sunlight. I want to go home now.
