: How much damage...

I´m still going to buy a DeVellle Sedan 1968... when I was driving the car for a testdrive, only 1km and came back, the engine was really hot. One freezeplug in the block was gone and no water at all in it. We found the plug att the parkingplace... How much damage could it be? Cracks in heads? Manifold?
The car have not been drived in a year and no coolant in it, and it's cold here in Sweden in the winter so the plug must been popped up then.
We pull a new plug back in the engine, filled water and it seemed to be allright, I hope.

These engines are fairly durable when it comes to heat. Water doesn't pass through the intake manifold so that wouldn't be much of a concern but the block and heads could be. With water/coolant in it, drive it and check for any signs of fluid loss......make sure you check the oil too. I would be more worried about what damage might have occured when the soft plug popped. The block, I would think, would be the area of greatest concern. Hopefully the freeze-plug did it's job and everything is fine.
By the way.....your english is better than alot of Americans.:)

Just curious,how common are big old American cars like that in Sweeden? I would think they would be somewhat diffucult to come by.

If the coolant froze and cracked the block you will see the coolant leaking , probably on the outside where the plug went in the block. If the previous owner was using water , not antifreeze, the plug may have rusted and fallen out from corrosion.
How did the plug look? Do you still have it?

If it is running OK I think it's probably not damaged. Let us know more.

Next weekend it's "Big Power Meet" here in Västerås. Europes biggest Swap Meet and cruising with 10.000 American Cars. Then I'll look after spare parts...

It seemed to be ok, I drived it home, it was about 20km and the temp was normal and no water in oil. There is another one rusty plug so I'll change everybody.
Now the "wreck" is at home and the BIG job will start...
