: I need to replace my 03 escalade HID. need help

The passenger side HID has not been working. The orange bulb works and so do the high beems. Do you think its just a bulb? or is it the ballast? I was gonna have the dealer replace it for me but I feel I will get ripped off. Where can I order the correct bulb to match the other HID? and how much?

You should need a D1R bulb for your Escalade. It should be in the headlight housing (i believe its' required by DOT, cast or printed in the plastic).

It's a bulb and igniter as one piece. The ballast *may* be bad, but it is serviced separately.

the ballasts usually last the lifetime of the car, but i have heard of ballasts burning out. the bulbs however do not last forever. You can try going to the dealer and ordering a stock bulb, but i doubt it will match the other side. I have had bad experience trying to match aftermarket HID bulbs, even the same brand. I doubt OEM bulbs are any different. The lights changes slightly overtime, so you may want to get both bulbs.

I know you can get a set of aftermarket bulbs for $60 a pair. OEM GM bulbs are prob over $150 a PIECE, but dont quote me on that. The bulbs are very easy to change yourself, do not bring it to a dealer! They will rapppppe you!

Good luck getting the wire harness off the stock bulb.....something soo simple is wicked hard.

Oh and just buy a pair of bulbs off ebay.take a few minutes and pull the headlight off.It is just two pins and the headlight comes right off.Look at the HID bulb and you will see what you are after.Go to Ebay and you'll find a matching pair for half the costs of GM parts. They are all the same.

I just checked Ebay and this is what I saw. Which do you recommend? and if neither one, can you show me others? Also, is it better to stick with the stock 5000k, or upgrade to 6000k or even 8000k? These are the links:

Whatever you decide on don't replace just one bulb. Replace both bulbs at the same time or they'll never be exactly the same color.

eta: rip-off Ebay dealers FTL. We have a HID vendor here with good warranties:

I find either the 4300K or 5000K the most comfortable to drive with. I had some 6000K before, but I wouldn't go back to them. They looked better from outside, but for me they caused more eyestrain.

good to know beacause I wasnt sure which ones to go with.

go with 6000K it looks nice its purpleish white 8K is blueish and doesnt produce the same bright lightning

Can I see just as good with the 6000K as I can with the 4300K or 5000K?

Can I see just as good with the 6000K as I can with the 4300K or 5000K?

Here's some HID 101:

4300k is considered "pure white" and offers the most luminous light output.....or usable light.

5000k is pretty close, your eyes wouldn't likely notice any difference between 4300-5000.

6000k has about a 5% blue tint to it. Some argue that 6000k is well suited for a mix of city and rural driving. At any rate, going to 6000k you'll lose about 200 lumens of light output.

Anything over 6000k (8000k, 10000k, etc) is purely for color. The light output begins to suffer BADLY in favor of a bluish or purple color. All for show and very little light output = useless.

Stick to the 4300-6000 range and you're GTG.
