: Some impressions looking under the car:

A car carrier just pulled up out front with a lovely delivery for two very lucky folks:

I poked around under the car with my camera and snapped a few photos for everyone here, since there are practically no shots of the underside. A few observations:

-Lots of crimped areas in the exhaust for clearance. A nice mandrel bent atermarket exhaust might yield a decent HP gain if it can be made to fit.

-X-pipe waaaay back by the mufflers. Never seen one back there before

-The rear looks even more indestructible in person than in photos

In general, photos do not capture the true badassery of this car. I had forgotten how mean it looks in person since I saw it at the Detroit show a year ago.

You 2009 CTS-V owners are a lucky bunch.

Umh a sincere question, if I buy one of these to use in wintery condition with lots of salted roads... should I add om sort of protection layer on the underneath of this car? It looks to have very exposed parts and I really don't want it all to rust up.

GM does not recommend any aftermarket undercoatings- there's nothing more exposed on these cars than any other make or model. The cast iron diff is probably going to look ugly in a year, but that's just a cosmetic issue and won't affect the performance.

Just put her away for a few months. Then, fly her in the spring! But by all means, get one!!!

That crossover at the back is typical of V8 BMWs, at least.

Under car coatings...
You might look into the product by Krown that they talk about all the time on Dream Car Garage. Seemed pretty impressive in this seasons shows on the Buick GN they treated.

Hint taken from original post. That exhaust is piss poor if anyone here calls a spade a spade. Look at the welds! Look at the bends! Look at the lunch box metal! Ahhh! Where is Z06 exhaust?!?!

(rear subframe looks outstanding, on the bright side)

Where is Z06 exhaust?!?!

Waiting for someone to spend another $25K on the car.

The first thing I recommend to look at underneath is the axle shafts. They are profoundly different in diameter!
