View Full Version : New Allante Member Intro! billc83 11-18-08, 07:17 PM Hey guys. An older threat was asking where the Allante owners were at. I decided I better introduce myself.
My name's Bill, I'm 25 and bought an '88 Allante back in May '08. It was THE find on Craigslist. I called and visited the owner on a lark, and ended up falling in love with the car. After he assured me it'd still be there if I needed some time to think it over, I bought it a week later.
The car was a two-owner, one-family (the dad had passed on, left to son) and though it wasn't perfect it was evident this man and his father took exceptional care of the car. All paperwork since new, pristine body, top in perfect working condition. I don't believe the car saw any rain during its lifetime.
I could not be more happy with my purchase. And I cannot stress how useful the Allante forum was in helping to research the car and its idiosyncrasies beforehand.
Anyway, just figured I'd introduce myself here (already been on the main site and FWD forums too[!]) to let everyone know that there is some new blood around. ... the car and its idiosyncrasies ...
It's those darn idiosyncrasies that make tools fly out of my garage on a very flat trajectory accompanied by colorful language.
BTW, welcome to the madness. Welcome
I think you'll find this site very useful! Great to see someone younger getting into the Allante. just curious, what do your friends think?
The car, when treated well, will treat you well.
Any pics? The car, when treated well, will treat you well.
Like a good woman, you'll smile while she empties your wallet. wcoates 11-24-08, 09:55 AM Welcome

Welcome Bill!
Tony, Greg, I was thrilled to see you forty somethings buying these beasts. Wow, now a 20 something.! Did a survey on another site about two years ago on well over 100 owners. (Buried here somewhere). Average age was 56+. Nice to see the youngens getting involved! ...Tony, Greg, I was thrilled to see you forty somethings buying these beasts.
LOL, yeah, I'm forty-something - forty-twelve. Lord Cadillac 11-24-08, 06:47 PM Welcome aboard, Bill! Thank you for signing up! :) Welcome Bill!

LOL Thanks! I like being a youngen for once.
Truth of the matter is these cars were the "bomb" back in the day and guys my age back then could not afford them. In fact, I remember saying I never even thought it was worth the kind of money they were asking.
When I started looking for a replacement for my 91 that was hammered by a deer, someone suggested looking at the Allante. By no means was it an "old mans" car like the 4 door Caddy stigma gets around here.
Either way..I'm happy with the decision and excited to get back out with the top down...but that's a long way away here in South East Philly!

After he saw it in person, he was like "Wow, this is like a Mercedes SL." I think he thought it would be an older 4-door. We took a quick drive and he was impressed. Most of my friends and coworkers like it. A few shook their heads and told me to stop buying cars.
Haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood!), save for needing a new battery the day after purchase! Opened the garage to show her off and it wouldn't start...always fun. And the power antenna motor went bonkers on my, so I disconnected it. Other than that, it's provided me with no heartaches yet; the visors aren't even droopy! :D
As for pics, they're are posted on the "Show Your Allante" thread, but I'll repost one for your viewing pleasure:
