: Underhood blanket mod

Hey folks, I've been mod'ing the the 99' again. I picked up this idea from a good friend with an 02' Z06.

Pop the hold down buttons and remove the insulating pad. Brush clean (I was too chicken to wet the fabric). Then I used a product called VHT penetrating color dye (11oz spray $5 C.A.P) I gave the pad two coats allowing about 20 minutes to dry between coats (in the sun outside...It has very strong vapors so ventilate well...or :bonkers: ). Let it dry overnight. Then I used a silver (Testors) paint pen to trace the embossed "Cadillac" logo. WhaLa the finished product! Looks more gray in the photo but it is actually jet black w/silver logo! Difficulty scale: super easy (unless you drop one of the holdown buttons somewhere in the engine compartment and spend 30 minutes looking for it :hmm: and 15 minutes retrieving it!)

What do you think?

wut if the embossed "Cadillac" logo combusts under all the heat... aren't testor's paint pens pretty flamable?

If you let it vent enough it shouldnt be a problem... ITs more flammable in its liquid than solid state.......

Dont worry about it...

I got it at Consumer Auto Parts for $5-7. No "spontaneous combustion" I try to keep the fire inside the engine :lildevil: lol!

No tricks here (looks great at 8 feet...get real close and the sins are revealed!) I just followed the indent that is molded into the fabric. Tip: get the tip real wet and just let the paint flow off the pen, don't try to force it you will get "pills" like and old sweater! After the first pass is dry go back over is to smooth the edges.

Then you might have to whip out the fabric shaver..... :)
