... so this morning I was digging around for some CTS Stuff and came upon used engines for the 2003-2004 CTSs and what do I find... 2.6L and 3.2L right out of the EURO Omegas...
Then I look up the CTS Specs and it says that the LA3 engine was used in the CTS and was borrowed right out of the EURO OMEGA... so then I am thinking why would GM go out and make a new transmission for it when it already had a 5SPD in europe...

So then I look some more and a brilliant idea comes to mind... a 5spd Manual swap right out of the CTS... perhaps even with the engine...

ECU is stand alone... should not affect gauges etc... sensors and all are all the same... the trans will bolt up with the cross member... the driveshaft will probably even work... and the rear diff should be a direct swap... since its a independant rear suspension... the mounts on it should be identical... so then the driveshaft should work as well... now who wants to pitch some money my way so I Can go get that done?

I am seriously considering the swap, my car has close to 110K on the clock and I am thinking if I can get a 3.2L swap with a 5 spd out of a CTS that would be friggin awesome...
Also 220hp... and of course the clutch pedal assemblies might have to come from the Omega althou those could have been a carry over as well... so anyone own a CTS .... can you take some photos under the dash so we can take a look at what is available to us? I mean why bother with EURO swaps when we got them right here... ???

Lets hear any input or info on the subject!

Here are some picture of the 2.6L and the 3.2L... also I found some photos of the 5spd that was attached... so if the block is the same then the clutch and flywheel and the trans should bolt up...

2.6L ON THE LEFT!

3.2L ON THE RIGHT!

The ECU will not be stand alone. The RPM signal for the gauge cluster comes directly from the ECU.

Best is to have a look at a CTS service manaul and compare the pinouts to the Catera ECU. They might even be identical minus support for the TCM for the auto. If not, you will need a European ECU from an Omega.

The CTS driveshaft and pedals will not work, the V-platform and CTS Sigma are completely different. The auto and manual Omega's had different length driveshafts. Youl will also want to keep the stock Catera diff as the CTS diff looks completely different.

This swap will likely not be worth it until you get the parts for very cheap.

Well I was thinking keep the CTS Driveshaft and see if the U joints will align... to the Catera DIff!

Also the European ECU should work with the Catera wiring harness... as the engines are so identical that most of the stuff should already be swappable... People have swapped the 3.2L with no problems... so thats why I was thinking ... CATERA Wirng, Euro ECU, CTS Engine... 5SPD Manual. Driveshaft... and Catera DIFF>..

Something like that should work...

THe ECU part I was thinking, the gauges dont need the ecu to run... or do they, I thought they had separate sensors etc... so the ECU takes care of the engine only and I guess you get RPMS out of it but that should be a real easy wire mod... If its a carryover engine I doubt its that much different...

I think the CTS Engines/trannies are cheap... the Tranny is 600$ on ebay... engines are around 1000 but you can use the catera engine and just get the trans... and swap that with clutch pedals out of a omega... and I think the whole swap can be done for under 1500$...
