: Why remove the strut brace?

I was just wondering what kind of fixing under the hood would require the brace being removed? I noticed mine was removed 2 separate times based on the wear marks from being torqued down and was wondering what they were doing under the hood

I know Fred Beans Cadillac was the garage that serviced this car including oil changes... Do you think I could call them and some how get the service history from them?

Edit: I noticed they do a full detail for $175 http://fbcadillac.fredbeans.com/detail-center.htm So tempting!

Anything that requires access to components near the firewall would warrant removal for me.
Things like the HVAC blower (depending on the year...some are inside), the master cylinder, coolant crossover, anything with the ignition system particularly on the rear bank, some transmission issues.... you had any of those done lately?

Like Bill said.......any time you need access to stuff, out it comes, plus a bunch of other in-the-way accessories.

I removed mine on my ETC when I did struts, rear valve cover gasket replacement, rear spark plugs, and something else I'm forgetting about now...

I called the Caddy dealer they took my name, number and Vin and told me he'd look and get back to me with the service records :nono:

Edit: That was a few hours ago btw...

Dollars to doughnuts it came off for either plugs, wires, coils, master cylinder, or maybe heater piping or hoses. Maybe coolant crossover.....many possibilities.

Hang in there.......the only two people who can decipher the GM work codes are ewill3rd and AJ. Those codes are work definitions for jobs performed....

I think "declined service" simply means that some type of service (cooling system, engine or trans flush or such) was suggested and declined.

I'm hoping the block was time serted The trans bolts are worn looking so maybe they had that out as well :suspect:

Not sure what I can tell you, like I said, all that coding and text is just based on what the service advisor put in the computer when the car was written up, no way to tell what was done without looking at the warranty history.
Even then if the car was worked on outside of warranty it won't show up except in the dealer's computer.

ok I'll call the dealer what should I ask for this time?

Tell them you need a detailed history report.
They should be able to do that.
In Reynolds (a system most dealers use) they can use 3651 and look at the HISTORY and print a history report.
If they have ADP I have no idea how it is done but I am sure it can be.
Just be sure to ask them to give you one with all the stories, not just the headers.
