View Full Version : Nav in '04 Escalade http://www.autonav2000.com/Compare/compare2.htm
According to this site, Cadillac's nav are as made by Denso. Lexus uses the same company but their nav already has touchscreen.
I am currently using Garmin's 2610 which comes in handy with rental cars, but it also has features missing in some OEM navs.
Where can I find a detailed description of the nav in an '04 Escalade? I have questions about how detailed the map is, about auto-routing, waypoints, etc. I test drove an Escalde today, but the salesperson was new and did not know how to work the nav.
We could locate a tiny town I have to visit (Falcon, NC) but I don't know if the unit provides turn-by-turn directions to such remote areas. When looking at the FX, for example, I was astonished to learn that the nav used by Infinity provides turn-by-turn directions for only about 5% of the continental USA. How small of a town are you looking at?
I have the nav in my 2004, and it provided me turn by turn direction all the way to a town of less than 2500. Even when I stopped at my destination, which is in the country, I pressed the locator button and it told me the address where I was at.
One time I used turn by turn and it worked up until I reached gravel roads. The turn by turn would not tell me the name of the street, but the map on the screen showed all the streets.
hope this helps Your reply is helpful. I just thought owners might know about a web that shows what kind of coverage is given for the continental USA.
With a tiny town like Falcon, NC I don't expect much inside the city but would want turn-by-turn going from Greensboro to Raleigh down the interstate to the exit for Falcon.
The primary web known to me is http://www.denso.com.au/dw/satnav/satnav_gen.htm which seems not to be current because the 04 Esclade nav does have POIs and off-route recalculating. http://www.delphi.com/pdf/d/int_nav_radio.pdf
Not a lot of info on it, but there is some, plus you can see it all apart. http://www.delphi.com/pdf/d/int_nav_radio.pdf

So the Escalade uses Delphi and not Denso?Do you know who does the maps? jamrock 06-23-04, 04:11 PM Cadillac really went cheap on this unit. In addition to it not having auto-recalcuting features due to traffic jams, or no touch-screen, or not able to play dvd movies, or read mp3's, or not comparable/compatible to the system in the SRX or CTS, there also was no disc made to work with it outside of the US, i.e. Europe. I wasted about $2K on this option, so be forewarned, GO After-market! You'll be happy you did, later. Cadillac really went cheap on this unit. On the Cadillac web it says that it does recalculate if you miss a turn. Then ** is added saying that there is "limited detailed routing." I asked the dealer yesterday, but the salesperson didn't even know how to use the joystick.
I thought another thread in this group said that the '05 would be touchscreen. T_Dogg8 06-24-04, 07:25 AM from what it sounds here and on the cts board, there is a nicer unit in the cts. with that being said and someone said early the '05 will be touch screen, i think cadillac is moving to improve it's nav. however, i don't think it'll ever be as good as an aftermarket unit. hopefully i'm wrong, but i wouldn't bet on it. the cts guys found a way to play dvds on their nav units by punching in a code. i don't know if you can do that on the escalade, but i would hope the newer one you can.
basically you're paying a little extra for it to 'look good'. it's a much cleaner look. joshuap 06-24-04, 09:58 AM I had the ALpine DVD nav in my Hummer, and really like the Nav in the EXT MUCH better. Alpine skimps big time on the maps they pruchase, and are FAR beyond every other companies in their mapping information. I haven't yet found a place that my EXT Nav didn't have, but I did find quite a few that my Alpine didn't have. I also consistently upgraded to the new DVD when ALpine would release it, and that is the biggest rip off. PistolPreeth 06-24-04, 10:57 AM I had the Pioneer nav unit in my 03 Escalade. I hated it. I had the Alpine nav unit in my porsche, and it was the best unit ever. I have yet to use my Caddy Nav unit, but the thing I like about it is that it is covered under warranty. If I have an issue I do not need to go to my aftermarket tuning shop, I can go straight to a caddy dealership. I like that reliability. In addition, nothing looks as good as the stock nav setup in my eyes T_Dogg8 06-24-04, 12:01 PM I had the Pioneer nav unit in my 03 Escalade. I hated it. i agree the stock unit looks much better. i've never had a nav unit in a car so i don't know how much i would use it. but i would like a dvd player. unfortunately i have an '02 so my only choice is an aftermarket. | |
