Hello all,

I'm new here. I just had a quick question about the motor differences between the 04-05's and the 06-07's. I know that the 1st gen v's housed the LS6 and the 2nd the LS2. What would be the advantages/downfalls of both platforms? Thanks

Now, is that BECAUSE of the LS6 or because of the shotty rear diff's of the 04-05's?

I did check it out as I know the facts behind the two. I just wanna know the pros and cons of both platforms; in the CTS-V that is.

Hmm, right off the bat i can tell you this..The LS6 gains are not as much as the LS2 because of smaller displacement. The LS2 will yield you more power with the same mods as a LS6.

That is why i bought a Ls2 that i will be installin in my 05...More displacement = more power = more grinnin...

All in all, GM carved a jewel out of the LS1 with the LS6...But now they completely changed the playin field with the LS2/7...

LS6 = exclusive, rare, last of the GM storied 5.7L engines...

LS2 = truck motorz...:stirpot:

At one time, there were more mods available for the LS6, but that may have evened out by now especially with respect to supercharging and headers.

With a little more than a dozen cubes, the LS2 seems to develop a better torque curve (i.e. more at lower RPM) even though they are rated with same peak numbers. I suspect that the stock LS2 is setup slightly milder than a stock LS6. I think if you drove both back to back, you'd be hardpressed to choose one over the other ... they both run GREAT!

It comes down to, you say, "potayto" and I say, "potahto" ... or is that the other way around?

Why would anyone doing an engine swap replace the LS6 with just an LS2? A few cubic inches and not even half a liter is not worth an engine swap to me.

Oh God, not this again. :doh:

They're both great engines, and put out about the same power. Some guys with factory freaks put out a little more, whether it's an LS6 or an LS2.
