Delaying the Cruze, a potential high volume vehicle in their high volume brand, would be a terrible mistake - unless they were lining up a different small car through the Chrysler - Nissan arrangement.

The Coupe version of the CTS may also be delayed...

It appears all is not going well with the merger/swap with Chrysler. GM may have to got Chapter 11?

As doom and gloom as it's looking for the automotive industry here in the US the Government would never let any one of the 3 go under because they employ way too many people to just let them go under. The Government will always help bail them out

GM needs this car, pronto. The previous projected release date of 2011 was allready later then it should have been...now it may be even later? At this point the Cruze is the most important vehicle to come in GM's lineup...

Daimler still hasnt sold their shares to Cerberus. And since they (Daimler/ChryslerCerberus) have been having accounting problems deciding how much that share is worth, the 'merger' could be a few weeks away...

We (as consumers and as an employee of a Chevrolet dealer) need the Cruze, so that delay is a bummer, but I don't really see the point in mentioning that the next-gen Malibu will be six months behind....delays in development aren't unusual, and the current one has only been on the market for 8 months tops, so there really is no need for a next-gen one anytime soon. And besides, 2013 is still 4.5 years away!
