View Full Version : Navigation DVD update

10-25-08, 03:36 PM
I purchased my 2005 Escalade EXT on 9/01/08. At delivery the factory navigation did not work. The disk was scratched badly and on our trip home would occassionally work. The Cadillac salesman said it worked when he tried it, but he couldn't make it work for me either. We agreed that we needed to replace the disk. I have been waiting for them to replace it with no success. I took it upon myself to purchase an updated disk. I have been watching for one on ebay and also watching for updates on the gmnavteq website. Recently the update disk was listed as new for 09 disk #25956691. I confirmed it with my year and VIN on the website. I found one on ebay and purchased it. When I load in in the new disk there is an error. "Unable to read DVD" "check if map DVD is correct" The disk is new and was sealed. I now think this is the wrong disk. Anyone had this problem?

The GM Nav website shows a disk #25956245 2009 NA 800 Trk/Mid-Utility/H3 North America for the standard Escalade and the Escalade ESV... you are correct it shows 25956691 for the EXT model but shows 2009 NA ESCALADE/LAMBDA/THETA for the description... I would think they all use the same one... I then checked all three vehicles (Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT) for 2004 and 2006... all use the 25956245 with 2009 NA 800 Trk/Mid-Utility/H3... I would call GM Nav people and point out only the 2005 EXT model calls out a different part number for the disk and a different description, however, since you bought your disk from E-bay you will probably have to eat it as GM Nav will not replace something they did not sell. I did some additional searches and the 25956691 shows it is for a 2007, 2008 and 2009.. even the GMC and Chevrolet versions call out the 25956245 disk for all 2005 models. Good Luck getting your money back from E-Bay... :suspense:

Thanks for the info. I now see how you arrive at that. I'll call Navteq to confirm, but I think you're right about the one I purchased that won't work. (SOL)

I called Navtech and explained the situation. He looked it up and came up with the same result. He said they would have to fix the mistake. I explained that I already purchased the wrong disk due to their incorrect information. He said he would have a manager call me..... They have not called. It's the same bad service as most companies. Bad service from my selling dealer and bad service from navtech. By the way, they did fix the website.

These part numbers are a PITA, they have all these different part numbers but don't tell you what the updates are. I have the 2008 disc and now I see the 09 is out and I'm wondering what is different? Maybe more roads...nore POIs..Or do they come out with an 09 part number to make you feel like you HAVE to get that disc.

They don't give enough info.

I was able to sell the incorrect disk on Ebay. I purchased the correct DVD from Navteq (they never returned my call by the way). It works. I am disappointed in the factory navigation system. The few times I have used it, I have found it to be incorrect every time. Many roads are missing. On a known route I have driven for years and know the shortest and fastest ways, it sends me 12 miles out of my way on a 9 mile trip. I have been within 1 mile of my destination and it still tries to send me back to start over. It will send me past the exact street that is input as a destination and then loop me around in a circle to get back. It doesn't name streets, only says to continue on "current road". Many times I need to know the street name. It doesn't update the trip quickly, causing incorrect turns. I admit that I am no expert on this system, but the inability to use most functions while moving makes it hard to learn and is a PITA. Ive pulled off to be able to stop so info can be input only to find it won't start the navigation until the vehicle moves resulting in missed turns because it takes so long to start. Update disks are overpriced in comparison to other systems. The "latest" update I received does not have many roads around my home area that have been there for years. I find myself using my VZ navigator on my cell. It is way better than the factory nav. I have owned many pick up trucks dating back to 1978. My recently purchased 05 EXT is the nicest one to date. The single disappointing feature to me is the navigation. Don't waste your money on the latest update.

Navigation systems are good only for areas that you are not familiar with. Also all the complaints you listed are valid for almost all NAV systems, not just the Cadillac one.

I frequently deliver our rental RV's to local areas that I'm somewhat familiar with, but not in detail. The driving directions on my cell's VZ navigator work great. The maps stink, but I don't use them because the driving directions work so well. IMO GPS maps are hard to use while driving in traffic. I prefer voice driving directions and the Escalades don't work well.

cant you use off road mode so it remembers the route you like?

I am also having a major issue with the nav. I just purchased my 05 ext a few months ago and the disc won't read. I tried using my girlfriends disc from her 04 SUV and that doesn't work either. I also tried her OLD disc and that doesn't work either, however all 3 discs will read in her car. So im not sure if the 05 ext just isn't compatible with these discs or if there is something wrong the the dvd nav player. I can put a music CD in and it works fine. I am not a big fan of cadillac's nav system at ALL. I came from a 01 acura RL and the navigation on that was AMAZING! If anybody could help me with my current nav issue or tell me the exact disc i need to work with a 05 ext i would REALLY appreciate it. thanks!

The disc that came with a 05 EXT is 10390370. I have two (both are orginial with GM manuels.) I would sell one if you would like to buy it. Some times when I put a disc in I get and error reading. I remove the disc and retry and it works fine. This is why i have two, i purchased another because I thought mind was bad. Guess my nav system has something wrong but it works fine 90% of the time. Hope this helps.

There is one for sale on EBAY of the latest version.
At lease this is the one that is for my 05 Escalade ESV.
The price is up pretty high.
GM wants $199 plus shipping for this disk.

25956245 disk for all 2005 models is the latest version (2009) for your 2005 vehicle... if you are using the stock unit (nav unit) and it's in a GM vehicle you need this disk to have the latest... remember, older versions will or should also work as long as they were made for the 2005 Escalade family... Good luck... if you have the above disk and it does not work... you most likely have a unit failure... :yup:

I came from a 01 acura RL and the navigation on that was AMAZING!

I came from an 00 TL, and the navigation was amazin as you said. Alpine made them for our years, not sure if they still do, but so user friendly, allowed to work with it while drivin, etc...

Loved it and I could save all my fav destinations.

I'm still learning the caddy navi, I got a ver 1 disk for my 03' I desperately need the newest disc so i can get around!

Any copies won't work on your unit, so just don't waste your time and buy the original one. I know what I'm talking about, trust me. Period.

Want brand of DVD+R DL media did you use? And what write speed did you use?

Nav takes a few minutes to load up with the current media I am using.

10-14-09, 11:04 PM
Someone told me... Verbatim dual layer DVD (DL+R) and the slowest speed possible to burn (1x)

10-15-09, 11:49 PM
Has anyone had anything other than Verbatim work?
