When I first saw a V at a car show, 400HP pretty much ruled the streets. The other day I was watching TV and saw an ad for a 375HP HYUNDAI!!!
Pretty soon my V will barely be able to get out of the way of all new cars!
Every manufacturer now seems to have a 400HP car. Looks like 400 is the new 200HP! I wonder how long it will be before 550HP will be ho hum??
At least my V has torque.

(except for that Tiberon with two engines/two trans...that thing was pretty cool) <- coolest burnout EVER

Don't think that's quite the case. Most manufacturers are scaling back on large displacement engines instead selling to the gas price conscious. Yes HP overall is increasing. 250bhp now seems to be the norm for V6s. I don't think 400hp will become the new 200hp unless there's some radical breakthroughs in combustion engine science.

Hate to burst your bubble, I have same car...2006 Infared, what's worse is there is another Infared in Calgary as well. Mine from California originally, other from Texas. Is yours an actual Canadian car?
You may be right about displacement but HP keeps growing. Maybe the current economic woes will stop the HP wars? Although I haven't heard any mention of gas prices for the last couple of weeks.

Another aspect of this is that Hyundai is really trying hard to go upscale. The car you're talking about is the new Genesis Sedan, and I give Hyundai mad props for growing a pair and building a car that I might actually buy (granted, I won't, but at least I considered it).

A don't imagine you'll be seeing a 400 HP Kia anytime soon :)

I don't know, but I plan on getting a Maggie before then :)

Just imagine how guys with C4 and C5 vettes feel. ;)

250-300+ is the new norm for a v6, where only a couple years ago companies were bragging about 200.

It isn't too late to be different. Mine has Black interior and I think other car was Black as well. So if yours isn't Black interior, then you can say you have the only Red/ "your interior color here" car in Canada.
Just checked autotrader. No Red ones for sale in Canada. Only found 20ish total (14 in Alberta).

I wasnt around but , look back to the early 70's. Cars made loads of hp and torque. Then fuel crisis, and bam we have the horrible 80's. Will history repeat itself?

300 is now the new 200
All the standard luxury / sport sedans are V6s and they making close to 300 hp , G35 , TL ,CTS, 335i, genesis, etc

400 is still a good number, consider all the new cars that came with 400 hp or so , RS4, ISF , M3, etc

Possibly by 2010-12 or so , 500 would be the bench mark

Ls engines have a lot of potential compared to the comptitors such as an M5 ( it would cost $8000 for long tube headers) , you can always mod if you are feeling that you have been pushed down in the food chain

Possibly by 2010-12 or so , 500 would be the bench mark ...So, the new "500" will be the old "400?"

The way I figured it in early '07, since I wasn't likely to get an '09 V, I'd hedge my bets and go with a maggie on my '05. If your prediction is correct, now I'm sitting here all ready to smoke the new "500" when it comes 'round. :lildevil:

guarantee you, by the time "400" is the new "200", most of us here will be at well over 600 :)

I told someone the other day they can spout big HP numbers like 425 Challenger, 400+hp Camaro, 438hp Maserati, but until they put down the better performance numbers than the V does then you can come talk to me. The V does 400hp better than just about anything out there (@3800lbs+) .

Also most people go for the HP numbers and dont even care what tq does to the car.
A friend has a 335i and it produces 300 tq @ 1800 rpm , it schools all the cars in its class like the G35, even an E46 M3.

There was a comparison test ( E55 vs M5)a few years back and most people liked the M5 and said it made more power ( 500hp) and they were dead wrong, but the E55 demolished the M5 in every speed category. Due to its 516 tq vs the 380ish in the M5
