I am a new GM owner, just bought a V and really like the OnStar concept for voice calls but the cost is very high. I just came across this and thought everyone might be interested.
great news! :bouncy: :bouncy:
I didn't think the V had the digital OnStar hardware. If this is true we couldn't take advantage of this. Do the '05 V's have the digital OnStar system?

I think everything produced this year is digital or digital ready. But this requires Gen6, which I have heard is in all new 2005 models with on-star.

Called Onstar and the o4's are gen 5!!!!!
Argh, really? Someone else said they were 'digital ready'. Is there an upgrade kit available for it? Must be, it's just a bunch of wires and computer chips.

Cost high? Well a little bit - but really not much more so than any other prepaid all inclusive (no add'l chrage for roaming, long distance, peak, TAXES, etc.) cellular phone service with exceptional coast to coast service.
I think my cellular overage (over my plan mins) would run close to the same price and the OnStar mins. (not that I go over much), just as a data point.
And I'm not trying to sell you on OnStar (I think at one time it was $1/min) but @ <$~0.40 / min. inclusive of taxes I dont think it's that overpriced for what it is.
That was worth $0.02 ;)

FYI - Gen 6 and "Digital" are not the same. You can have a Gen 5 and upgrade to digital but it's not Gen 6. Gen 6 is all new.

What does GEN 6 add if not digital (or what else)? Can we change the "box" in the back and get the same features?
