Hi all

My parents have a 94 STS. About 3 weeks ago they got the oil changed at the dealer. A few days after that they noticed a burning smell (my dad said it was oil but my mom says it's more like rubber). They took it back to the dealer and they checked the hoses and belts and looked for leaks...nothing was found.

Prior to the oil change my mom said it was running hotter than normal.

They are still having the issue and just recently my mom saw smoke from the right front.

Today my dad added a quart of oil. There are no drops under the car.

Any clue what the problem is? I'd appreciate any help on this.

All depends on the smell. If it's rubber, I'd look for a seized or seizing pulley on the serpentine belt. If it's oil, look at the oil cooler lines, oil filter, oil pressure switch (on the oil filter adapter).

Thanks for the ideas. We have noticed that the smell happens after the car is warmed up.
Does that help?

Not really. You have to figure out if it is rubber or oil to start to narrow down the search.
