How do you replace a waterpump belt on a 96 Deville N*? I attempted to slide the belt out through the gap by the valve cover. The valve cover bolt seems to limit the amount of space in order to slide it out. Any suggestions. Thank You in advance.

If you mean between the tensioner and the block its the right spot (I think, its been awhile). It should come out.

Between the tensioner and the block is the area I am talking about. It seems like a tight squeeze.

just remove the tensioner. 2 10mm bolts at the base
I've replaced 2 w/p belts, and was not able to 'slip' either out.
Without removing the tensioner completely.
When you remove the belt 'cover', where you remove the lower 2 nuts - these are actually 2 'studs'. With hex heads under the cover arm. Remove these 2 studs, and the whole tensioner comes out. Then the belt can be removed.

Twist the belt to turn it on edge and it'll usually come out okay. It's tight but it'll slide through on edge.

Thanks for the advice. I was able to replace it in 20 minutes.
