I figured it deserved a look, since we're all d-body GM folks.

I'm kinda liking this car. It's as big as a Cadillac, with the same GM features. But it's different, and kinda neat. These aren't as abundant (at least in decent shape) as their Fleetwood counterparts are they? Even the Olds 98s are common, but not the Electras. Were there any other d-bodies?

Oh, and are those speakers in the doors?

Those were really cool, family friend/babysitter had a similar year Park Ave, rode around in the back seat a lot when I was a kid. His was black, black top, with burgandy velour seats, same wire wheel hubcaps.

Leather seats in that car is kind of rare, most of those late 70's/early 80's cars had the velour cloth.

That's cool, good ol' b-body coupe! I like the Deltas equally. If that car were PA coupe, I'd eatin' it up. Those fluffy velour seats look inviting too.

It kinda makes you wonder, though... Olds and Buick had their top line on the d-body, and their "number two" on the b-body (Delta 88, LeSabre). So how come Cadillac put both the Fleetwood and Deville on the d-body? Logic tells you the Deville should have been a b-body car. :hmm:

I like the Buick, but the '80-'84 Ninety-Eights are one of my favourite all time cars. I often saw one cruising around my town as a kid, and the look of it passing by really stuck with me. I have come close to buying 2 now, but I'm waiting for one in the right color... and would really prefer a two door, with the astroroof. The sedan is badass... but the coupe is timeless looking. I'd like to mention, in case anyone else has noticed that the astroroof is much more common on 98's than on Fleetwoods or deVilles. Approx. 4 out of 5 98's I see around here HAVE one.

Gotta have one of these someday. I mean, with Oldsmobiles you can really say, "They don't make 'em like that anymore!"

On the Parisienne subject? I love these cars even more. They hold a special place in my heart. We have a 1985 sedan, base base base model, maroon in color. It sits on a set of correct Pontiac Rallye II's w/ whitewalls. Really striking car.

The car was owned by my great-grandmother's brother until he died in 1991 when it was sold to my grandfather. He died in '92 and it was left to my grandmother who doesn't drive. My mom drove it as a daily from '98 to '01 when we started to realize that any more winters would really kill the car.

We fixed her up and she's a summer cruiser only now. Has a lot of heritage in our fam, and good memories surrounding it. That 305 small block has never let us down. Would like to buy one of two VERY low mileage examples here in town to preserve further... if the old lady drivers ever warm-up to the notion of selling.

I'll post some pictures of a few examples I've come across in a little bit.

I always liked those early '80s Park Avenues/Ninety Eights. They were arguably the closest to the DeVille the Electra/Ninety Eight ever came. I like the Park Avenue most because I think it's better looking, with the typical Buick waterfall grille and I like the interior more, mainly because of all that fake wood grain trim and super plush seats, with that deep "fat rolls" look.

I love those cars!

My Father bought one for my Mother in 1982 when my Brother was born... he kept it until 2003, sold it with 85K original miles:

I still see it every so often when I visit Virginia Beach. The new owner is a elderly gentleman that lives a couple miles away from my parents. He bought it to take his grandkids to school and soccer games.

P.S. You can see the grill of his old '92 Brougham d'Elegance behind it in the first picture.

Yeah my grandmother bought a brand new Pariseanne in 1985. And it's base base base, power-nothing, AM radio only (front speakers only), and even has the V6. It doesn't drive worth a darn, but she won't sell it either.

And ya know, it seems the Ninty-eights and Park Ave/Electras had more fake wood than the Cadillacs. What's up with that? I like that wood all along the door panels, but most of them have been destroyed due to sun-exposure. Is there a way to restore those?

brougham_geezer
09-29-08, 10:50 PM
My_Favorite_Brougham: You're grandmother has the one up (or down, in this case? :bigroll:), on mine. Ours has the rear speakers too, and AM/FM. We also have rear de-froster, cruise, and it HAD factory wire wheel covers (before the Rallye II's), as opposed to those big discs you could get on the BASE BASE BASE end. Does hers have those? We also through a thick GM rear stabilizer bar on it, which helped severely in the corners. This was an available option.

Parisienne Broughams can be kinda swanky. I'll throw some pics on here of some killer condition ones near my place.

And I agree on the wood topic. Maybe Cadillac was going for the classic "less is more" theme? I think the wood on the Buicks/Olds' is a little uglier than their Cadillac cousins classy door-panel treatments.

I think to repair those sun-damaged bits (which seems to hapen on ALL of these cars if left outside) would require stripping all the fake-wood wrap, or coating off the brown plastic, since it kind of peels off. Then maybe you could get some new wood grain applique and coat the trim in it?

Regardless, it does not look like an easy repair.

Yep, hers has the plain-jane disc wheel covers. I have the equivalent for my Olds 88 wagon.
And no defroster, no cruise, no pass-side mirror. The ONLY option was a/c.. and it's out.

And maybe GM has released "molds" for those trim pieces, and third-parties have begun making replacement. But I don't know.

Do you have a custom vinyl roof? That doesn't look factory, as the back is not like a "limo" and non-closed ones didn't have that trim.

It looks good nonetheless; something different. :cool2:

That's the standard roof treatment for a DeVille (with the vinyl option). Fleetwoods got the formal roof and the limo style small side window.

brougham_geezer
10-06-08, 04:02 PM
I think I know what My_Favorite_Brougham is talking about. Yes, Fleetwoods have the limo rear window and vinyl around the quarter windows, but I don't believe that is what he meant.

My '80 CDV and any others I've seen with a vinyl top DO have a smaller rear window treatment than 472's car. His car appears to have a typical CDV vinyl top, with a rear window treatment similar to what a vinyl top-delete coupe would have.

I've only seen the bigger rear window and most importanly, the chrome trim on deVilles without a vinyl top.

I do like this look though. It's certainly different. My guess would be that 472's car had no top, and then someone installed one without "frenching" the rear window (or whatever you call it), and used the standard trim again.

Or maybe it was possible to order a top without limo-style window. Certainly stands out though.

EDIT: Forgot to say that those Buick rims are a favorite of mine, although IMO they'd be a bit too "muscle-car-wanna-be" without those lovely correct-width whitewalls. Good on ya for choosing those. They look great and make those rims look right at home on a luxury car.

jayoldschool
10-06-08, 08:33 PM
Oops, I never looked at the back window, just the sides...:(

That is definitely an add-on top to a bare top car. That window trim only came on the bare trims. Also, note that there is no chrome trim around the bottom of the top on the quarter panel.

I like it! The painted lines on the tail lights are interesting, too. Pretty sure the factory wire wheel caps would fit on those Buick wheels, too...

Brougha, with no AC and crank windows, neat option choices... in GREAT condition. always garaged. one owner. this old lady is from my town and is nicer than the lady who owns the white/silver one... even pulled it out of the garage for me to snap some pictures! chances of ending up with this one are better... still wouldn't mind! dirty in the pics but a GREAT car.

strangely enough she WON this car in a 1986 draw. Actually, she won a jeep. hated it, and traded for this Parisienne.

1984 Olds 98 Regency Brougham coupe, with sunroof, and rallye gauges. 27,000 km. always stored inside. i love it.

'80 coupe with sunroof... almost bought it but it was a rustbucket. after looking at the white, super clean one.. i thought ... hold out for something good. owner insanely was calling it a "true hardtop" with "rare wire hubcaps" and wanted $3500.00. Sat around for 3 years before selling 3 weeks ago to someone else for $300.00 or so. Did run well, with the 350 and working sunroof... would requre MAJOR body/frame work.

The only recent pictures I can find of my grandmother's Pontiac, discussed earlier in the thread, are these... sorry for their lameness. I might have a few others of how it used to look before these wheels on the other computer.

Hope someone enjoyed that chain of posts/pics. I have many more, but those were just some I could easily dig up/thought of now. More leads on cool cars to photograph all the time. Next up is a tan/yellowish '84 Olds Ninety-Eight 4 door... might be some more pictures of a different Poncho soon.. but you'll have to wait and see how that deal goes down.... :shhh:

Will post more pictures of some more Cads I've looked at/had adventures surrounding again sometime soon when I have time to round up some more pictures. Also shots of the construction of a new garage! Exciting times... stay tuned....

That red Pontiac with the Console shift:drool:

I actually like the Buick and Cadillacs better if we are talking about early 80's models. That Buick "cow-catcher" grill is amazing. The Ponchos, Caprices, and 98's kind of look the same to me.

Another one of my favorites, the 77-79 Chevy Caprice 2 door, that back glass:drool:

Wow! Thanks for sharing, Brougham Geezer! Those are my all-time favorite cars. Those Parisiennes are really cool; the grills look so mean and toothy! Kinda like Christine I guess. By the way, my grandmom's Parisienne also doesn't have skirts, so that's another base feature!

The Parisienne always held a special place in my heart... my parents bought a wagon and sedan brand new in the mid 80s.

.. so in 2007 I bought this '86 Parisienne wagon with the 307 and drove as my daily driver for 4 months till I got tired of the inefficient & gutless 307, I sold it to a Parisienne collector in Maryland (yes, he actually collects them and had 8 running cars and 4 parts cars):

I still like the Buicks B/D bodies the most, but the Oldsmobiles come in at #2.

I LOVE these cars, that white Oldsmobile coupe had me drooling. And the blue Caprice brought back memories. Like I've mentioned elsewhere, my Dad had a white '77 Caprice Coupe w/ black cloth when I was little. Great car, I'll never forget it, that was one of the cars that got me onto full bodied RWD GMs. It doesn't even have to be a Cadillac, they were all cool.

Just thought I'd bring this topic back up for this car. I found it on craigslist and it is a steal, IMO. Sunroof and everyting. http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/cto/1040286987.html
