Does anyone know if the 2005 Northstar STSs are speed limited? If so, at what speed? Just curious, not trying to get any tickets!

All cars are speed limited by the type of tire they have. The Z rated tires gets you the highest top end. This is programed at the factory.

Your vehicle should be limited to 155mph....

Good luck.

Depends on the model & options. But yes they are limited. Some other posts go into how fast they have gone, check them out. I only 'trompt' mine once through the gears and redlined each one upto 110 mph then got out of it.

That's awesome Cajonkev, I had no idea, I knew these puppies were fast but not that fast. I'll have to try it sometime, provided I can find a secluded roadway sans state and local troopers! Is yours a stock STS V-8?

Mine says "Speed Limit Reached" or something like that but it keeps climbing if you keep the pedal down. My 94 Eldorado would shut off the injectors when it hit the limiter and it was VERY noticeable.

All depends on the speed rating of your tires from the factory.
108mph limiter for S rated tires, 155 for Z rated. If you keep your foot down will go faster... I've heard :)

Anything fuel injected has a speed limiter on it.
Even motorcycles.
(AFAIK)

If your vehicle backs off after reaching 80-90 miles per hour, make sure the traction control is not on. Once it''s off, it will let you keep going...

I think that the STS V8 N* is drag limited at about 150 mph. Since air drag varies as the cube of the speed, the end point is fairly definite. If anyone "knows" how fast my 2006 will go, I'd sure like to know. I haven't the place nor the guts to try it out myself!
